UOC-SDE Admission Dates 2026

UOC-SDE admissions for the 2026-27 academic session followed a merit-based selection process driven by marks in the qualifying examination. There is no entrance exam for any programme. The 2026-27 cycle has concluded.

The next admission cycle for 2027-28 is expected to follow a similar timeline, with applications likely to open in June 2027 and close by September 2027. The table below shows the exam-wise programme entry requirements for all current UOC-SDE offerings.

UOC-SDE Courses and Fees

UOC-SDE offers 25 programmes across undergraduate and postgraduate levels in arts, commerce, management, and science streams. All programmes are in the open and distance learning mode, meaning there are no daily classroom obligations. Fees below reflect the total cost for the full programme duration.

First-year fees include a one-time registration and study material component of INR 1,620 in addition to the annual tuition fee of INR 1,890 (for most BA programmes). From the second year onward, only the annual tuition fee applies. The BBA programme carries a higher fee structure than the BA/B.Com group owing to the management-oriented curriculum content.

UOC-SDE Admission Process

UOC-SDE admission is merit-based and requires no entrance examination. The entire process is online through the university’s application portal.

UG Admission (BA, B.Com, BBA, B.Sc)

The minimum eligibility for all UG distance programmes is a pass in 10+2 or equivalent from a recognised board. There is no minimum percentage cutoff for most humanities and commerce programmes. B.Sc Mathematics requires prior study of Mathematics at the 10+2 level. The admission steps are:

• Online registration on the UOC-SDE admission portal
• Upload of qualifying mark sheet, identity proof, and photograph
• Fee payment through the online payment gateway
• Admission confirmation by the SDE office
• Enrolment at the nearest Study Centre

Working professionals, homemakers, ex-servicemen, and students above the minimum age of 17 years are all eligible to apply. There are no upper age limits for any programme.

PG Admission (MA, M.Com, M.Sc)

PG programme eligibility requires a Bachelor’s degree in the relevant discipline or an allied subject from a UGC-recognised university. MA Arabic, History, and Malayalam require a pass in the relevant language subject at the UG level. M.Sc Mathematics requires a Bachelor’s with Mathematics as the main subject. M.Com requires B.Com or an equivalent commerce degree.

The admission process mirrors the UG workflow: online application, document upload, fee payment, and study centre enrolment. All PG programmes close for admission alongside UG programmes in the annual September window.

Lateral Entry and Re-Admission

UOC-SDE allows re-admission for students who discontinued their programme. Candidates who have already completed some years under a recognised university can apply for lateral consideration. Specific re-admission terms and course equivalency are governed by the current University of Calicut SDE ordinance.

UOC-SDE Career Outcomes

UOC-SDE does not hold campus placements. Being a distance education institution, it serves a diverse learner base - working professionals upgrading qualifications, housewives pursuing degrees, and fresh 10+2 passouts who could not access conventional college seats. Career outcomes depend heavily on the learner’s prior profile, internship or work experience gained independently, and the sector they target.

UG graduates from BA, B.Com, and BBA programmes typically seek entry-level roles in banking, insurance, government services, retail, and teaching. A B.Com or BBA from University of Calicut (Distance) is recognised for government job eligibility and bank PO recruitment by IBPS and SBI. MA graduates often pursue BEd programmes, competitive examinations (KPSC, UGC NET, Staff Selection), or school-level teaching positions. M.Sc Mathematics graduates target government teaching roles, SSC CGL, and actuarial or data science roles with further certification.

The University of Calicut degree - whether obtained in regular or distance mode - carries the same academic status as the parent university’s degree for purposes of employment and further studies, as per UGC norms on equivalence between ODL and conventional degrees.

UOC-SDE Study Centres and Support

UOC-SDE delivers its programmes through a spread of Study Centres authorised by the university. These centres are located across Kerala - covering all major districts - as well as select centres in Gulf countries, accommodating the large non-resident Keralite community.

Study Centres facilitate contact classes (typically on weekends), practical support, internal assessment submission, and examination registration. They also serve as the point of document verification during admission. Students with study material queries may approach the SDE office in Calicut directly or use the university’s web centre and helpline. The library at the main SDE campus holds a reference collection for on-site learners visiting the Calicut campus.

UOC-SDE vs IGNOU vs Kerala University IDE

Students choosing a distance education route for a UG or PG degree in Kerala most commonly compare UOC-SDE, IGNOU (Indira Gandhi National Open University), and the Institute of Distance Education at Kerala University. The comparison below covers the most relevant decision factors.

IGNOU has a much broader programme catalogue and is particularly suited for learners who need niche or professional programmes not offered by UOC-SDE.
