Here’s what Vaibhav Kumar Mishra has to say about the university.

In summary, Vaibhav Kumar Mishra's experience at IISER Bhopal provides a strong campus culture, a well-developed and extensive infrastructure, and a research-intensive curriculum that suits students interested in science. But, placement opportunities are limited for students on campus and the academics are quite challenging and tiring, and the food available in the mess is generally mediocre. In summary, it is a solid choice for dedicated students, but it may feel challenging for others.- Read More

IISER Bhopal Admission FAQs

Ques. What is the IISER Aptitude Test for IISER Bhopal admissions?

Ans. The IISER Aptitude Test (IAT) is a competitive entry test available to candidates seeking admission to IISER Bhopal. The IAT is used to assess the student’s understanding of key foundational science concepts, usually taught until Class 12. The IAT consists of questions across four subjects:

  • Physics
  • Chemistry
  • Mathematics
  • Biology

Students will be required to answer questions in any three of the four subjects. The test is of moderate format and difficulty. IISER Bhopal does take IAT scores seriously since it is an indicator of how successful a student might be in a research-based environment. A strong performance in the Aptitude Test and strong marks in board exams will improve your chances of receiving a seat at IISER Bhopal.

Ques. What if I did not get IISER Bhopal in the first round of counselling?

Ans. You should not be concerned if you do not get IISER Bhopal in the first round of the counselling process. The central counselling process will usually have a number of rounds. There is usually a rotation of the students who accept and decline the offer of admission, and when a student accepts a seat, a seat becomes available for other students. You may be upgraded to IISER Bhopal in subsequent rounds, depending on your rank and preferences. This happens all the time, and students are frequently upgraded to IISER Bhopal, and you should keep refreshing the portal and proceed through any counselling rounds. The only thing is that you want to make sure that you keep your IISER Bhopal preference high.

Ques. What should I expect on the first day at IISER Bhopal?

Ans. The first day at IISER Bhopal is typically filled with excitement, orientation activities, and campus formalities. Students register themselves, complete document verification, settle into their hostel rooms, and attend the introductory session by faculty and the Dean. Parents are often invited to the opening session too. You’ll also receive your institute email ID, academic timetable, and lab allocations. Expect a mix of paperwork, campus tours, meeting new batchmates, and your first taste of independent student life at IISER Bhopal.

AI-Generated Summary based on 60 Reviews

Admissions to the Bachelor of Science [BS] + Master of Science [MS] in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at IISER Bhopal are based primarily on the IISER Aptitude Test (IAT), which tests students on Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Maths. This competitive exam, similar in difficulty to JEE Mains, is conducted in June, shortly after JEE Advanced. Applicants need to secure a minimum score of 60% in the IAT to qualify for selection.

The exam can be attempted up to three times, with each attempt costing INR 2000. Students who pass receive both a common rank list (CRL) and a reservation rank if applicable. Admission preference is given to IISER Bhopal due to its unique combination of engineering and research opportunities. Counseling for successful candidates includes 6 to 10 rounds where students can submit and adjust their preference orders among different IISERs. The acceptance cut-off for general category students typically requires a rank around 5000-6000, while OBC applicants need to aim for around a 900 rank.

A 12th-grade board score of 60% is mandatory for eligibility. While admission through JEE Advanced used to be an option, it has been discontinued from 2024 onwards. Candidates are advised to prudently manage their preference ranking during the counseling rounds to increase their chances of admission in their preferred stream and campus.
