- Magnetic and Non-Magnetic Materials – Depending upon whether a material shows attraction towards magnet or not, they are classified as magnetic and non-magnetic.
| Magnetic materials are those materials which get attracted towards a magnet. For example – iron, nickel etc. Non-magnetic materials are those materials which do not get attracted towards magnet. For example – wood, plastic etc. |
- Poles of Magnet – Poles are the regions of the magnet where the attraction of a magnet is strongest.
| There are two poles of a magnet each at its one end – North Pole and South Pole |
- Finding Directions Using a Magnet – The poles of a magnet can be used to find directions. The end of the magnet which points towards north is called the North Pole, whereas the end which points towards the south is called South Pole.
