Class 8 Mathematics Chapter 14 Factorisation – Important Topics

Factorisation: Factorisation is defined as dividing an integer or polynomial into factors which when multiplied together, result in the initial integer or polynomial.

Factors: Factors are numbers or algebraic expressions that divide the number or expression without leaving any remainder. For example, the factor of 9 is 1,3,9.

Basic Factorisation formulas:

  • a2– b2 = (a – b)(a + b)
  • (a + b)2 = a2 + 2ab + b2
  • (a – b)2 = a2 – 2ab + b2
  • a3 – b3 = (a – b)(a2 + ab + b2)
  • a3 + b3 = (a + b)(a2 – ab + b2)
  • (a + b + c)2 = a2 + b2 + c2 + 2ab + 2bc + 2ca
  • (a – b – c)2 = a2 + b2 + c2 – 2ab + 2bc – 2ca
