Example From Chapter 14 Factorisation

Ques. Factorise the expression 14pq + 35pqr

Soln: 14pq + 35pqr

Expressing the terms as factors

14pq = 2 × 7 × p × q 

35pqr = 5 × 7 × p × q × r

Therefore,

The two terms have 7, p and q as common factors.

Therefore, combining we get

14pq + 35pqr

= 7 × p × q × 2 + 7 × p × q × 5 × r

= 7 × p × q × [2 + (5 × r)] 

Grouping the terms, we get,

= 7pq × (2 + 5r)

= 7pq(2 + 5r)
