Class 8 Mathematics Chapter 5 Data Handling – Important Topics

  • Data handling is the method of collecting data set and representing in a different form.
  • Data means a collection of numerical values that depicts a particular kind of information. 
  • As a result, data can take any form, including words, measurements, numbers, descriptions, and observations.
  • Data handling is the process of safeguarding data that is investigated and obtained, preserved, or disposed of in a secure way throughout and after the analytical process is completed.

Mean: Average of a given set of numbers is known as the mean.

Median: Middle Value in a given set of data is known as median.

Mode: Most Occurring item in a given set of data is known as mode.

Range: Difference of maximum and minimum value in a given set of data is known as Range.

Quartile: Arranging the data in quarters is known as Quartile.

Interquartile: Difference of Upper Quartile and Lower Quartile is known as Interquartile.

Variance: A measure which gives an approximate idea about data is known as variance. It is used to calculate standard deviation of a data set.

Standard Deviation: We can find how far a value is from the mean by the help of Standard Deviation.
