Class 8 Science Chapter 9 Reproduction in Animals: Important Topics

Animals reproduction takes place both sexually as well as asexually. Sexual reproduction comprises the fusion of male and female gametes, and this process is known as fertilization. Fertilization can be again external or internal. External fertilization refers to the process wherein the male sperm fertilizes the female egg outside the female’s body. Whereas in internal fertilization, the fusion of male and female gametes takes place inside the body of the female.

  • Asexual Reproduction

Asexual reproduction in animals occurs through fission, budding, fragmentation, and parthenogenesis.

  • Sexual Reproduction

Sexual reproduction may involve fertilization inside the body or in the external environment. Sexual reproduction starts with the combination of a sperm and an egg in a process called fertilization.
