IU International University of Applied Sciences Application Deadlines

For UG admission, applicants from CBSE, ICSE, and eligible English-medium state boards may also be able to use their Class XII English records as proof, subject to IU’s requirements.
Insider note: Selected MSc programmes, particularly in Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, and Cyber Security, may require a formal English language test even if applicants submit an MoI letter. IU International University of Applied Sciences Application Process
IU manages admissions directly through its own portal at my.iu.org. It does not use uni-assist, the central platform used by many German public universities, so you file once with IU and skip the third-party fee. The full sequence for Indian applicants is:
- Apply: Register at my.iu.org and select programme, campus, and intake
- Documents: Academic transcripts, passport, English proof, CV, and motivation letter
- Application Fee: Free
- Interview: Attend the mandatory 15-minute online interview
- Decision: Usually within 2 to 6 weeks
- Enrollment: Accept the offer and pay the ERU 1,500 (INR 1.65 lakhs) registration fee
- Visa: Obtain the enrolment letter and apply for APS and the German Student Visa
The admissions interview is an important part of IU’s selection process, rather than a routine formality. Applicants will reschedule up to 3 times, while a fourth missed appointment can result in application closure.

IU International University of Applied Sciences Admission Decisions and Offer Timeline
IU manages its admissions process directly, which can make decisions faster than at universities using centralised application platforms. Most Indian applicants receive a conditional offer within 2 to 4 weeks of submitting their documents. The offer process generally follows these steps:
- Conditional Offer: Within 2 to 4 weeks if documents are pending
- Unconditional Offer: After document and English verification
- Acceptance: 4 weeks to accept and pay the ERU 1,500 (INR 1.65 lakhs) registration fee
- Deferral: One-time deferral to the next intake, subject to availability
- Enrolment Letter: Issued after payment; required for APS and visa applications
A deferral of more than one intake requires a new application review. Applicants who do not pass the English test after receiving an offer may take IU’s English preparation course and defer their programme start by one intake without penalty, subject to the university’s terms.
Germany Student Visa for IU
Indian students admitted to an eligible on-campus programme at IU must apply for a German National Visa (D-visa) for study purposes. The study visa route generally applies to fully in-person programmes (Präsenzstudium), while online and hybrid courses do not qualify. Confirm your programme’s study format with IU before submitting your visa application.
Indian students must submit their German student visa application through VFS Global, which handles applications for the relevant German consulate. The main steps include obtaining the APS certificate, opening a blocked account (Sperrkonto) with EUR 11,904 (INR 13.08 lakhs) for the 2026-27 cycle, and arranging German student health insurance.
2026 update: Germany’s blocked-account requirement for the 2026-27 cycle is EUR 992 (INR 1.09 lakhs) per month, reflecting an increase from previous years. Indian applicants commonly use providers such as Fintiba, Expatrio, and Coracle to arrange their blocked accounts, subject to the applicable consular requirements.

FAQs
Ques. Is IU, International University of Applied Sciences recognised in India?
Ans. Yes. IU is institutionally accredited by the German Council of Science and Humanities (Wissenschaftsrat), and its degrees are recognised in India for higher studies and government-sector jobs after equivalence assessment by the Association of Indian Universities.
Ques. What is the visa-safe deadline for the April 2027 intake?
Ans. Submit your IU application before 31 January 2027 to leave enough runway for APS processing, blocked-account funding, and the German consulate slot. IU itself accepts applications on a rolling basis, but the visa timeline is the binding constraint.
Ques. Can I switch campuses between Berlin, Cologne, and Munich after admission?
Ans. Campus transfers between IU locations are allowed subject to seat availability and programme continuity. Note that the Berlin campus paused new international admissions in early 2025, so new visa-track applicants should start at Cologne, Munich, or another active on-campus location.
Ques. Are IU on-campus degrees eligible for the 18-month post-study work visa?
Ans. Yes. Graduates from IU on-campus (Präsenzstudium) programmes are eligible for the 18-month post-study job search visa granted by Germany to international students. Online and hybrid IU tracks are excluded from this route.
