University of Amsterdam (UvA) fees for Indian students vary by faculty and intake. For September 2027, annual postgraduate tuition across business, communication and computing ranges from EUR 23,455 (INR 24.92 Lakhs) to EUR 34,200 (INR 36.34 Lakhs), while undergraduate fees for business, economics, psychology and communication range from EUR 15,730 (INR 16.71 Lakhs) to EUR 16,670 (INR 17.71 Lakhs).

  • Monthly living costs: EUR 975–1,600 (INR 1.04–1.70 Lakhs), based on UvA’s 2026/27 Economics and Business exchange guide.
  • Housing: University-arranged rooms cover only the first year; private housing costs depend on rent, utilities and commuting.
  • Estimated first-year MSc Business Administration budget: EUR 36,554–44,054 (INR 38.84–46.81 Lakhs), including tuition, 12 months of living costs, the application fee and current immigration charge.

These budget figures are estimates. Flights, housing setup costs and refundable deposits are extra.

February 2027 Intake:

Intake: MSc Business Administration applications requiring a visa close on 1 November 2026. February entry covers International Business, Digital Marketing and Consumer Marketing. UvA's entry-visa file deadline is 11 November 2026; conditional admission is needed to start that process. September 2027 offers the broader programme choice.

When to pay: February's initial seven-month tuition calculation is EUR 14,029.17 (INR 14.91 Lakhs), with payment arranged by 31 January 2027; it is not the complete degree price.

Scholarships: The 1 November 2026 cutoff is a course deadline, not an award deadline. September 2027 Science merit funding closes on 15 January 2027. Undergraduate awards vary by faculty; several Indian funding schemes await their next application cycle.

Note: Conversions use in the article: EUR 1 = INR 106.24 as of Oct 2026

University of Amsterdam Tuition Fees by Programme

Indian applicants generally pay the institutional tuition fee at the University of Amsterdam (UvA), as they are usually classified as non-EEA students. The lower statutory fee applies only to students who meet specific nationality, residence-status and degree conditions. Tuition also varies by faculty and programme: Finance has a separate rate, while one-year and two-year science master’s programmes may have different annual fees.

University of Amsterdam Postgraduate Fees: September 2027

These 7 full-time postgraduate programmes are available for September entry. Tuition is charged per academic year. MSc means Master of Science; the total column multiplies each programme's annual rate by its published duration and excludes living expenses, application fees and immigration charges.

Programme Duration Full course tuition fees (EUR and INR)
MSc Business Administration 1 year EUR 24,500 (INR 26.03 Lakhs)
MSc Finance 1 year EUR 25,300 (INR 26.88 Lakhs)
MSc Econometrics 1 year EUR 24,500 (INR 26.03 Lakhs)
MSc Business Economics 1 year EUR 24,500 (INR 26.03 Lakhs)
MSc Artificial Intelligence 2 years EUR 52,000 (INR 55.25 Lakhs)
MSc Computer Science (joint degree) 2 years EUR 49,940 (INR 53.06 Lakhs)
MSc Information Studies: Data Science 1 year EUR 34,200 (INR 36.34 Lakhs)
  • Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Econometrics, Business Economics, and Data Science and Business Analytics use a 1 April 2027 deadline for applicants needing a visa or UvA housing. Scholarship applicants must complete the relevant applications by 15 January 2027.
  • Persuasive Communication is a track within MSc Communication Science; its international September 2027 deadline is 1 March 2027. Its February 2027 application round has closed.
  • Computer Science is a joint degree with Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, also called VU Amsterdam. Applications go through VU, and teaching takes place at both universities. Use the joint programme's registration and payment instructions.
  • Data Science and Business Analytics and Information Studies: Data Science are different degrees. Their annual tuition differs by EUR 9,700 (INR 10.31 Lakhs), so a course title alone is insufficient for a budget comparison.

University of Amsterdam Undergraduate Fees: September 2027

The five Bachelor of Science (BSc) programmes take three years full-time. Tuition is annual: Economics and Business programmes share one rate, while Psychology and Communication Science use the Social and Behavioural Sciences rate.

Programme Duration Annual tuition fees (EUR and INR)
BSc Business Administration 3 years EUR 15,730 (INR 16.71 Lakhs)
BSc Economics and Business Economics 3 years EUR 15,730 (INR 16.71 Lakhs)
BSc Business Analytics 3 years EUR 15,730 (INR 16.71 Lakhs)
BSc Psychology 3 years EUR 16,670 (INR 17.71 Lakhs)
Global Communication Science (BSc Communication Science) 3 years EUR 16,670 (INR 17.71 Lakhs)
  • The English tracks of Business Administration, Economics and Business Economics, and Psychology require applications by 15 January 2027. They use numerus fixus, meaning places are capped and selection is required.
  • Business Analytics has a 1 April 2027 visa/housing application deadline. Global Communication Science advises international applicants needing those services to apply before 1 April, ahead of its formal 1 May deadline.

Cost of Living in Amsterdam for Indian Students

UvA’s 2026–27 Economics and Business exchange guide estimates monthly living expenses at EUR 975–1,600 (INR 1.04–1.70 Lakhs), covering accommodation, daily expenses, insurance and study materials. Annual figures are calculated over 12 months and are estimates, not official quotes for a specific 2027 room.

Expense or comparison Monthly (EUR and INR) 12 months (EUR and INR) What the amount covers
Overall living-cost estimate EUR 975 (INR 1.04 Lakhs) to EUR 1,600 (INR 1.70 Lakhs) EUR 11,700 (INR 12.43 Lakhs) to EUR 19,200 (INR 20.40 Lakhs) UvA faculty estimate; excludes tuition.
Regular UvA-arranged rooms: rent only EUR 370 (INR 39,312) to EUR 1,150 (INR 1.22 Lakhs) EUR 4,440 (INR 4.72 Lakhs) to EUR 13,800 (INR 14.66 Lakhs) Regular housing-service range; utilities and internet included. Rent is part of living costs, not an amount to add again. Optional commercial offers can cost more.
  • UvA-arranged housing means furnished rooms reserved with external housing providers. It does not mean a university-owned room beside the teaching building. Rooms are allocated by lottery, and the university cannot accommodate every eligible applicant.
  • Housing contracts normally cover one or two semesters, with a maximum of one academic year. Students on a three-year bachelor's or two-year master's must arrange later housing independently.
  • For February 2027 starters, the housing lottery closes on 9 November 2026. Participation requires the university's invitation and eligibility, including conditional acceptance. A late course application does not guarantee an invitation in time.
  • The published housing-service rent includes gas, electricity, water and internet. Private offers need their own checks for these bills, deposit, lease length and travel to the relevant teaching campus.

Private-room searches can include Diemen, Amstelveen or Haarlem, which UvA identifies as alternatives beyond central Amsterdam. Their rent cannot be assumed lower: compare the actual contract with the commute to Roeterseiland or Science Park, the teaching locations used by many business, social-science and science programmes.

Currency Tip: UvA advises allowing about two weeks for an international bank transfer. A euro invoice due by 31 January 2027 needs transfer time as well as funds; the INR amount shown here does not fix the bank's rate on the payment date.

Total Cost of Studying at the University of Amsterdam

The estimated first-year budget for the September 2027 MSc Business Administration intake is EUR 36,554–44,054 (INR 38.84–46.81 Lakhs), excluding flights and housing setup. This estimate combines 2027/28 tuition with 12 months of UvA’s 2026/27 living-cost estimate and current application and immigration charges.

The calculation includes EUR 24,500 tuition (INR 26.03 Lakhs), a non-refundable EUR 100 application fee (INR 10,625) and a EUR 254 residence-permit/entry-visa charge (INR 26,987). The range reflects different living-cost scenarios; the midpoint is calculated, not an official average.

Scenario Living expenses for 12 months (EUR and INR) Calculated first-year budget (EUR and INR)
Lower published living estimate EUR 11,700 (INR 12.43 Lakhs) EUR 36,554 (INR 38.84 Lakhs)
Calculated midpoint EUR 15,450 (INR 16.42 Lakhs) EUR 40,304 (INR 42.82 Lakhs)
Upper published living estimate EUR 19,200 (INR 20.40 Lakhs) EUR 44,054 (INR 46.81 Lakhs)
  • The estimate covers the complete one-year MSc Business Administration period. A September 2027 start falls within the 2027/28 tuition year; February entry spans two fee schedules.
  • The living benchmark includes an insurance allowance, but it is not a personalised insurance quote. Mandatory health cover must match the student's circumstances; employment can change the required cover.
  • Housing service and administration fees, refundable security deposits, flights, a new laptop, admission tests, document preparation and bank charges are excluded. Existing living expenditure, including rent, must not be added a second time.
  • No competitive scholarship or future earnings reduce the base budget. The immigration charge is the published 2026 amount; the charge applicable when submitting a 2027 immigration application may differ.

For a two-semester UvA room, additional housing service and provider administration charges currently total EUR 635 (INR 67,468) to EUR 735 (INR 78,093). UvA's service fee is non-refundable; provider charges follow the housing contract. A refundable housing deposit affects cash available before arrival but is not automatically a permanent annual expense.

University of Amsterdam Scholarships for Indian Students

UvA merit funding can support both undergraduate and postgraduate study, but the amount and assessment are faculty-specific. Several India-side schemes are loans that must be repaid. None should be treated as confirmed funding before an award letter is issued.

Scholarship and study level Award amount or support Key eligibility Deadline, cycle and status How to apply
Amsterdam Merit Scholarship (AMS): undergraduate and postgraduate, faculty-specific Science, September 2027: EUR 26,125 (INR 27.76 Lakhs), paid monthly; one award is available and tuition remains payable. Economics and Business master's standing terms: tuition plus EUR 5,000 (INR 5.31 Lakhs). Undergraduate 2027 amounts await faculty announcements. Non-EEA status and exceptional academic results. Science: top 10% and previous degree completed within three years. Undergraduate criteria differ by faculty. Science: 15 January 2027. Economics and Business standing annual award cutoffs: 15 January for master's, Business Administration BSc and Economics and Business Economics BSc; 1 March for other bachelor's. Upcoming award terms remain pending. Request scholarship consideration within the degree application and supply the required motivation, academic evidence and references. Psychology bachelor candidates are considered through selection, without a separate scholarship application.
Amsterdam Economics and Business Talent Fund: eligible one-year master's Full scholarship under the university's standing policy; a numerical package and detailed cost split are not published. Non-European Union applicants with exceptional results and demonstrated financial need. Family income evidence, recommendation and motivation are required; another full scholarship is excluded. Standing annual cutoff: 15 January for both course and award applications. Upcoming allocation and monetary terms await publication. Select the award in the university application and upload financial-need evidence, including the requested income documents.

The Science AMS is a monthly grant, not a tuition waiver. For two-year Science programmes, renewal requires at least 40 ECTS credits and satisfactory academic progress. Economics and Business scholarships may also be reimbursed in instalments, so receiving an award does not automatically cover tuition upfront. Students should plan how to pay their fees while accounting for the scholarship payment schedule.

University of Amsterdam Tuition Deposit and Payment Options

UvA's public MSc Business Administration admission guide sets a tuition-payment deadline rather than publishing a separate fixed acceptance-deposit amount. Any additional offer-specific deposit must be confirmed from the individual offer. For a September 2027 start, tuition payment must be arranged by 31 August 2027; February starters use 31 January 2027.

Tuition payment methods for UvA-billed programmes

  • Bank transfer: pay the full amount due. Instalments are not available through this method. UvA allows around two weeks for an international transfer, and the payer bears bank charges.
  • Direct debit: an eligible bank in the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) is required. The standard choices are one payment or ten instalments; February entrants can use one or five. Instalments carry a one-off administration fee of EUR 24 (INR 2,550).
  • Credit card: first-year students from outside the European Union can request a payment link, subject to the university's exclusions and a surcharge. UvA does not publish a fixed surcharge on its payment instructions.

February 2027 Business Administration: two fee years

The initial February-to-August portion is seven-twelfths of the 2026/27 annual fee, or EUR 14,029.17 (INR 14.91 Lakhs). Five months at the published 2027/28 rate add EUR 10,208.33 (INR 10.85 Lakhs), giving a calculated net 12-month tuition of EUR 24,237.50 (INR 25.75 Lakhs). This assumes completion by January 2028 and timely deregistration so unused months can be refunded; it is not a fixed package price or a seven-month degree. The next academic year's billing can require funds before any later refund.

Steps to arrange payment and immigration

  1. Register through Studielink, the Dutch university enrolment system, then complete the UvA Student Information System (SIS) application. Pay the programme application fee where required and meet the offer conditions.
  2. After conditional admission, complete the immigration file when invited. An Indian passport holder normally needs an entry visa and residence permit, applied for together through UvA.
  3. Supply acceptable evidence for remaining tuition and living funds, then pay the immigration application charge. An instalment choice does not remove this evidence requirement.
  4. Set up the permitted tuition payment method by the intake deadline. Include the student number and surname with a transfer, retain the receipt and confirm enrolment completion in SIS.

UvA currently asks degree students to show EUR 13,572 (INR 14.42 Lakhs) for 12 months of living, plus remaining tuition. This is financial evidence, not a second living-cost bill; the living-funds requirement can change for 2027 applications. Its published rules do not accept ordinary third-party loan documents as financial proof.

The Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND), the Dutch immigration authority, publishes a 60-day decision period, which can be extended. UvA's 11 November 2026 immigration deadline leaves a narrow route after the 1 November course cutoff. Admission processing, complete documents and the entry-visa appointment still determine whether February entry is workable.

Hidden Costs of Studying at the University of Amsterdam

Securing a UvA room can require substantial cash before the lease begins. The university's housing service fee, the provider's administration charge, rent paid in advance and a refundable security deposit are separate items.

Expense Current amount (EUR and INR) Payment or refund treatment
UvA housing service, two semesters EUR 485 (INR 51,531) Paid when a room offer is reserved after the lottery; non-refundable and separate from rent.
Housing provider administration EUR 150 (INR 15,937) to EUR 250 (INR 26,562) Part of the initial provider payment; the actual offer specifies the charge.
Housing provider initial payment Around three months of the offered rent, plus the administration charge UvA's rule of thumb combines rent and deposit. It is not three extra months of annual housing expense.
Entry visa and residence-permit application EUR 254 (INR 26,987) Current 2026 charge; paid through the university and non-refundable.
MSc Business Administration application EUR 100 (INR 10,625) Non-refundable; due before application submission, with stated exemptions.

For a two-semester UvA housing allocation, the housing service fee, administration, Business Administration application and current immigration charge produce a partial pre-arrival subtotal of EUR 989 (INR 1.05 Lakhs) to EUR 1,089 (INR 1.16 Lakhs). Tuition due before arrival, initial rent, the refundable housing deposit, flights, tests, document charges and insurance premiums payable upfront remain outside that subtotal.

UvA's private-housing guidance describes security deposits of one or two months' rent, normally refundable when the accommodation is returned in the required condition. For health insurance, studying without employment and taking a Dutch job can trigger different coverage requirements. Retain an insurance allowance in living expenses and account for the actual premium's due date when calculating cash before departure.

At the University of Amsterdam (UvA), tuition for September 2027 master’s programmes in business, economics and analytics starts at EUR 24,500 (INR 26.03 Lakhs), with accommodation in Amsterdam adding to the overall cost. The February intake for Business Administration offers an earlier start, but applicants targeting it should complete their documents well ahead of the 1 November 2026 deadline to allow time for the application and immigration process.

FAQs

Ques. Do Indian students pay the statutory or institutional University of Amsterdam fee?

Ans. Most applicants arriving from India pay the institutional non-EEA fee. A different rate is possible only when the student meets the published statutory-fee conditions, including qualifying residence or nationality circumstances; an Indian student visa alone does not establish that entitlement.

Ques. What are University of Amsterdam MSc Finance fees in 2027?

Ans. MSc Finance tuition for a new non-EEA student is EUR 25,300 (INR 26.88 Lakhs) for 2027/28, and the programme lasts one year. Amsterdam living expenses, the application charge and immigration costs sit outside that tuition figure.

Ques. Can University of Amsterdam tuition be paid in instalments from India?

Ans. Direct debit requires an eligible SEPA bank account, with ten instalments normally available and five for February starts. UvA charges EUR 24 (INR 2,550) for the instalment option; an international bank transfer requires payment in full. Immigration financial evidence is still required.

Ques. Can undergraduate students receive an Amsterdam Merit Scholarship?

Ans. Yes, UvA has undergraduate faculty schemes, including Economics and Business and Psychology. The amounts and selection rules are not identical: Psychology uses its selection process, while Economics and Business requires scholarship information with the application. An older published amount should not be assumed to be the confirmed September 2027 award.

Ques. Is the UvA housing fee refundable if I do not take the room?

Ans. No. UvA requests the service fee after a positive lottery result when an offer is reserved, and states that the fee is non-refundable even if the student does not book the room or begin studying. Joining the lottery itself does not guarantee a room.

Course Curriculum

  • Course curriculum was a mix of both theoretical and practical learning. As I mentioned before, every course you take has a different teaching and examination style, so it is quite diverse in that sense. Lectures are usually held for EVERY student enrolled in the course. (which can be 700+ sometimes). Tutorials on the other hand are smaller for 15-30 students where we focus more on solving things one on one or having group discussions, debates or presentations, according to the course structure.
  • The course structure is divided as well: Every year -> 2 sem (sep - jan, feb - june

Every sem -> 3 periods (2 months - 2 months - 1 month)

Every period -> 3 courses (except period 3 and 6 which has 1 course that runs the entire period)

Every course -> 3 classes (2 lectures and 1 tutorial)

Fees

  • UvA charges international students an annual institutional fee, which increases slightly each year. The good thing is: you pay the same amount you paid in your first year for every consecutive year you study. Back in 2022, the fees for my program was 9,650 euros which is the same fees I still pay although for new students its about 11K euros.  You can choose if you wanna pay monthly or yearly. I pay yearly, because euro rates are uncertain hahah.
  • Accommodation charges really depends on what you find yourself as I said already the university does not help you find it. An average room in Amsterdam is about 800 euros a month. I have a public transport subscription that gives me discount so I pay about 40/50 euros a month, plus I bike a lot, which is a rented bike for 20 euros a month. Food/Going out/other expenses are manageable in 350-550 euros per month range.

  • The courses were moderate to high difficulty level depending on your background. It was a good mix of theory and practice.
  • Positives: Very good emphasis on practical assignments, group projects and research opportunities to publish.
  • Each class is about 2 hours. In a day, typically you will have 2-3 lectures.
  • 200 students on average, 3-6 Indian students

Fees

  • Tuition fees: 22000
  • Living costs: 12000-18000 (assuming decent student life)
  • The fee is charged per semester or yearly and you can choose how to pay.
  • Monthly expenses include rent, food, groceries, and transportation. Rent is about 500-800 €/month; groceries would be 100€; transportation, if you buy a bike, is a one-time case of 200-400€ or each tram/bus journey costs about 2-3€ on average.

  • Course was quite a difficult one. There were some subjects, like Data Science Methods, Machine Learning and Optimisation, and Machine Learning in Finance, which was purely quantitative and exams were based on proof that questions only, which were not so easy to solve.
  • Positive impact was that it prepared me to read the latest research papers and understand the maths behind any algorithms. Now I can read any latest AI research paper easily. Negative impact was that it was much more focused on academics, not touching on industry applications for some subjects.

Fees

  • Tuition fees for the Non-EU Student in my course were 16,500 euros, and hostel charges vary depending upon the student housing you get. There are options of 400 Euro, 510 Euro, 650 euros and 950 Euro approx.
  • For international students, charges have to be paid yearly for the master's programme. Can't say about bachelors.
  • 300 to 500 Euros considering transportation, food and other expenses. Rent can easily go from 800 to 1500 euros, depending upon the locality.

  • Some courses were easy, and some were tough. For all courses, there was enough material and guidance available at all times.

  • The only negative aspect was that for some courses, 2 months felt rushed as they were more complex.

Fees

  • 15290 euros was the annual tuition fee. (Which has gone upto around 23000 euros this year, if I am not mistaken)
  • I paid around 650 euros in rent monthly for a private studio. I received around 210 euros worth of housing allowance from the government which brought my effective rent down to 440 euros. (Please note: Housing allowance is not applicable to all houses, there are several criteria in which the house needs to fall under to be applicable)
  • Transportation and groceries would cost additional 500 euros approx.

  • The difficulty of the course is at a level where you can’t pass without understanding the material fundamentally. All assignments are a mix of theory and practical work.

  • Classes are scheduled during the day, usually from 9 AM to 4 PM.

  • There are around 200 students in each course, and 4 Indian students in my batch.

  • The positive aspects are the depth of learning and practical exposure, but the workload can be heavy at times.

Fees

  • The fees for my course at the University of Amsterdam are 16,500 EUR per year, so for the entire course, it totals 33,000 EUR.
  • The fees are charged annually, so I pay once per year for the whole year.
  • As for my monthly expenses:
  • Rent comes to about 800 EUR per month.
  • Transportation costs around 150 EUR per month.
  • Food and groceries add up to roughly 300 EUR per month.
  • But yes, if you finish your master's early you can claim a refund for the fees.

  • It was pretty difficult. Dutch Universities are notoriously tough. My course was a mix of theory and praxis because I was in the applied track and we had 3 months of fieldwork with an applied output to submit along with our thesis for the course.
  • It was academically challenging but also a bit unstructured at times. my course had about one class at a time divided amongst the 4 blocks.
  • I have 1-2 classes per week. There are 2 Indian students in my course.

Fees

  • I had to pay 17000 euros at once. I pay around 500 euros for rent and an additional 500 euros for cost of living.
  • Mine is a one year course. We do not have hostels. It is not credit based. In Amsterdam, people usually cycle so transport costs are less.
  • If you live in a nearby area, you may incur train charged but that depends on where in the country you live.

  • It was majorly practical, with a focus on lots of assignments and projects.
  • Positive aspect is that you learn through projects; you are used to tools and techniques that are a vital part of real-world applications.
  • Negative aspect is that you need to devote yourself to understanding the basics of those tools so as to have a solid foundation.
  • The schedule varies depending on your courses and electives. Usually you have 2 lecture classes and 1 tutorial/practical class for one course every week. A lecture class is two hours with a 15-minute break, while a tutorial class is for an hour.
  • My course has around 200 students, but this number may vary for the electives. Around 10 Indian students were enrolled in my course.

  • I opted for a Student Accommodation, and is off-campus. In the Netherlands, there is no ON-Campus accommodation.
  • I opted for housing accommodations during my application process. So, when I received my acceptance, the university introduced me to a third-party housing provider, wherein I got my room. The process was simple, but the university asked for one-time overhead fees.
  • I pay around 500 EUR for a room and bathroom. I share the kitchen with around 5 co-tenants.
  • For me, the process was smooth in securing a house there.
  • Yes, please go for university-guided student accommodations, as they are very clean and comparatively cheap.
  • It is a 30-40 minute ride through public transport. There is no specific area for Indian students, as the housing is allocated randomly based on their selected preference.

  • Difficulty: The course is definitely challenging! It leans toward an advanced level, especially if you’re not already comfortable with mathematics and statistics. It’s a good mix of both theory and practice: we dive deep into theoretical concepts (like asymptotic properties, proofs, and derivations), but there’s also a strong practical focus through coding assignments.

  • Pros and cons:

  1. The most positive aspect is the depth and rigor of the material it trains you to think analytically and apply methods to real-world data. The professors are generally very knowledgeable and approachable.

  2. The most negative aspect would probably be the workload sometimes the pace is too fast, and the assignments can feel overwhelming, especially when multiple deadlines line up. Also, some courses are heavier on theory than others, which can be tough if you prefer hands-on learning.

Fees

  • Tuition: 10,000 euros.
  • Rent Accommodation: 700-1200 euros.
  • Fees are charged annually, with options to loan, scholarship etc.
  • Monthly expense: 300-500 euros (food groceries and coffee), 100-120 euros (public transport metro, tram, bus, train), 800-1200 euros (rent)
  • Students that get student accommodation save money of rent, but it is a lottery system.
