Banaras Hindu University (BHU) is going to offer a new scholarship programme for first-year MBBS students from the Economical Weaker Section.

New Delhi: A scholarship plan for first-year MBBS students from the Economically Weaker Section will soon be introduced by Banaras Hindu University (BHU). The programme would provide financial aid in the amount of Rs. 25000 to needy students during the first week of their MBBS studies.

The scholarship programme will be established through alumni donations from BHU. Alumnus of BHU and former head of the metallurgical engineering department at IT-BHU (now IIT-BHU), Ramesh Chandra Gupta, has given Rs 5 lakh to his alma mater.

An official from BHU stated, "The new scholarship programme is named after the close relatives of Gupta, Dr. Bhoj Raj Varma and Smt. Shanti Varma. The BHU will begin utilising the donation received under the Pratidana scheme.

The donation for the candidates was made under the just-launched Pratidana programme. This plan intends to improve the teaching-learning environment at the institution and increase student access to resources and research infrastructure. Vice-Chancellor of BHU Sudhir Kumar Jain introduced the Pratidana programme.

Whom will BHU Scholarship Scheme Benefit?

The programme seeks to assist worthy students who are struggling to complete their MBBS degrees owing to financial limitations. The Rs. 25000 scholarship is available to first-year MBBS students who are less fortunate financially.

Ramesh Chandra Gupta has received recognition from the university for his significant contribution to the alma mater. Others will be inspired to contribute to the improvement of the university thanks to this scholarship.
