Optional exams to improve performance in the class 12 board examination are proposed to be held in September, said the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Thursday.
The results of the tests, which were cancelled in the light of the Covid-19 pandemic, were announced last month on the basis of an alternative assessment scheme.
The compartment examination for Classes 10 and 12 is also scheduled for September 2020, while the dates for the examinations will soon be announced, the board said.
"Optional examination for students of CLass 12, whose results have been declared on the basis of the assessment scheme and who wish to improve their performance, is proposed to be carried out in September, together with a compartment examination for both class 10 and 12 students. Dates will soon be announced," CBSE Examination Controller Sanyam Bhardwaj.
"The marks obtained by the candidate in these optional examinations will be treated as final for those who have chosen to take the examinations," he added.

While regular candidates have been asked to approach their respective schools, private candidates are required to apply directly through a link on the Board 's website by August 22, 2020.
"The candidate will be examined only in the syllabus as prescribed for the year of examination. Students must carefully review the eligibility and pass criteria as well as the curriculum for the year of examination and the study scheme before filling out the form," Bhardwaj said.
Girls outperformed boys by nearly 6 percentage points in the CBSE class 12 test results reported last month.
This year, the overall pass percentage increased by 5.38 points. While 83.40 per cent of students completed the exam last year, 88.78 per cent of students completed the exam this year.
Under the four-point scheme, the marks were awarded on the basis of the marks scored by the student in his or her best performing subjects.
Under the assessment scheme, students were divided into four categories.
The first had students who had been tested for all their subjects; their results were reported on the basis of their performance in all the papers.
Students in the second category had appeared in more than three subjects. Marks were awarded for subjects for which they did not appear on the basis of the average of the marks obtained by them in the three best performing subjects.
The Board identified a third category of students who had appeared in only three subjects. For them, the average of the marks obtained in the two best performing subjects has been awarded in subjects whose examinations have not been carried out.
Students in the fourth category were mainly from the February riots in the north-east of Delhi, where the examinations had to be postponed. The results of these students have been reported on the basis of their performance in the subjects for which they have taken the test, in addition to their performance in internal or practical project assessment.
In view of the exceptional circumstances, the Board also decided against announcing a merit list this year.

The number of students who scored more than 95 per cent in the Grade 12 exam this year is more than double that of 17,693 in 2019, according to the CBSE.
This year, when the Covid-19 pandemic disrupted the examinations, the figure more than doubled, with 38,686 students scoring more than 95%.
Similarly, the number of students who scored more than 90% also increased from about 94,000 in 2019 to nearly 1.6 lakh this year.
