All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), has recently started a video consultation program e-ICU for medical professionals working on the frontline during COVID-19 pandemic.
e-ICU was started by AIIMS Delhi from the first week of July. As per an official statement released on Monday, 20 July 2020, by the Ministry of State and Family Welfare, this program primarily focuses on discussing case management for doctors on the frontline.

Objectives of e-Counselling Program
The objective of this program is to reduce mortality rates caused due to COVID-19 transmission. Additionally, it is believed, sharing professional experiences will ward off discrepancies and enforce best practices like including 1000 beds (ICU, oxygen-supported and isolation beds).

Working Principles and benefits of e-Counselling
With the e-counselling program, NIRF’s Top Ranking AIIMS, Delhi wishes to bridge the communication gap between frontline workers across the country. Their collective decisions springing out from shared experiences, research insights and newer and advanced ideas can help fight this unruly virus.
Each discussion session runs for 1.5-2 hours duration on video conferencing to cover relevant everyday issues observed in case of patient care.
Sessions covered with institutes
So far, AIIMS has conducted 4 video conferencing session with 43 institutions in 11 states of India. Among them, Tamil Nadu tops the list with 13 of its institutions taking part in the video conference.
Second, comes Maharashtra with 10 institutes being covered followed by 5 of Assam. 3 medical institutions from Delhi, Goa and Gujarat and 2 from Telangana participated in the program.
Lastly, 1 institute each from Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Bihar also participated. The e-counselling program aims to cover all smaller healthcare facilities that can furnish 500 beds or more.
