Delhi CM Demands Better Infrastructure and More Colleges Under DU; Read Full Report Here

Delhi: Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal recently requested an amendment in section 5 (2) of the Delhi University Act. The request has been made in order to establish new colleges and better infrastructure for DU students.

CM Arvind Kejriwal’s request was made due to the increased threshold of colleges affiliated to Delhi University. He suggested that in order to establish a new university and colleges there should be a change in the DU Act. 

Referring to the statement made by Delhi CM, Rajiv Ray, the president of Delhi university teachers' association stated that increasing the number of colleges and universities will also increase the course fee.

There are 28 colleges under Delhi University, are facing financial difficulties. Funds are not provided to them thus the faculties of the institutions are not getting their salaries for around six months, he further added in his statement.

The number of colleges must increase but independently. The fees in Delhi University affiliated colleges are already high and if we increase the number of colleges so the course fees for different professional courses will increase in a quick time, said Rajiv Ray, the president of Delhi.

In the support of the amendment suggestion the Pankaj Kumar Choudhari, assistant professors of Shyamlal College said that this is a good idea for the students with an average and an above score of 80-90%.

Students with average percentages remained unregistered only after the second cutoff so the establishment of new colleges will be a boon for them, he added.

Affiliated colleges including Hindu College have the first cutoff for most of the courses is 99% or 100%. Now, this is a very serious issue to increase either the number of seats and infrastructure or the colleges in the Delhi region.

Anju Srivastava, Principle of Hindu College said, the amendment should be done in a way that will not affect the existing colleges.
