DU will launch three new BTech programs in different specializations. Interested candidates can apply based on their JEE Main Scores.
New Delhi: Delhi University is all set to launch three BTech programs from the upcoming academic year with a total capacity of 360 students. The admission will be done based on the JEE Main scores.
According to the DU official, the Faculty of Technology will be responsible for conducting three BTech courses, under different specializations. The university will launch BTech Computer Science and Engineering, BTech Electronics and Communication Engineering, and BTech Electrical Engineering.
Proposal for DU's New Programmes
According to an official statement, the university will present a proposal regarding the matter to the Executive Council on Friday. The university obtained approval from the Ministry of Education in April to establish 72 teaching positions and 48 non-teaching positions for the new programs.
Earlier, in 2021, the university formed a committee to discuss the introduction of these new courses, which has been actively involved in a series of meetings over the past eighteen months, carefully considering various issues within its scope.
Their aim is to facilitate the implementation of three BTech programs in the Faculty of Technology, focusing on computer science and engineering, electronics and communication engineering, and electrical engineering, as outlined in the report submitted by the panel.
According to the reports, the university plans to utilize the JEE Mains score of applicants for BTech Admissions. A proposal has been sent to the Union Ministry of Education for the construction of physical infrastructure for the Faculty of Technology. The construction process will commence once the necessary financial and statutory approvals are obtained.

The committee recommended that appropriate arrangements for classrooms and laboratories be put in place for the BTech programs until the dedicated building for the Faculty of Technology is constructed and made functional.
According to the report, the committee authorized the vice-chancellor to determine the necessary space and other physical infrastructure required to initiate these B.Tech programs.
Regarding the number of students in the first year, the committee observed that each course would accommodate 120 students, resulting in a total of 360 students being admitted. The BTech programs would be structured in a way that assigns a minimum weightage of 50 percent to the major subject area of study, with a maximum weightage of 65 percent. The remaining weightage would be given to the minor subject areas of study, as stated in the report.
In accordance with the National Education Policy, students will have various pathways to choose from upon completion of their studies. Upon earning the necessary credits after one year of study, a student will receive a certificate.
Similarly, completing two years of study with the required credits will result in the awarding of a diploma, while three years of study along with credits will lead to an advanced diploma. For those who successfully complete four years, a BTech degree will be conferred.
In order to ensure logistical support and close proximity to the majority of faculties and departments on the campus, the departments of Computer Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, and Electrical Engineering are required to be located on the North Campus of the university.
