Delhi University Withdraws Strategic Plan 2022-47 Amid Plagiarism Controversy; Check Details Here

New Delhi: In response to allegations of plagiarism causing controversy, Delhi University has retracted its Strategic Plan (2022-2047). During the Academic Council meeting, the DU Vice Chancellor emphasized the importance of the Strategic Plan Committee considering the suggested changes put forth by members.

The University of Delhi Strategic Plan (2022-2047) faced criticism for purportedly incorporating content from plans of several national and international universities, including the University of Sheffield, Ohio State University, and IGNOU.

During a specially convened Academic Council meeting dedicated to the University of Delhi's Strategic Plan (2022-2047), members underscored the plan's significance for the institution's future. Following discussions and insights from participants, the Vice Chancellor urged the Strategic Plan Committee to thoroughly reconsider the suggestions.

The Vice Chancellor encouraged all Academic Council members to meticulously review the strategic plan and offer essential recommendations to the committee. 

Additionally, linguistic experts and editors will join the committee to assess the linguistic intricacies of the draft. Emphasizing the need for swift editing of the draft's content, the Vice Chancellor stated that it would subsequently be shared with members for further discussion and approval.

In response to these occurrences, some Academic Council members voiced apprehension, asserting that a prestigious institution like DU should refrain from endorsing such a limiting vision, particularly as it approaches its centenary.

Dr. Vikas Gupta, an Academic Council Member and Associate Professor of History at the University of Delhi, censured the suggested strategic plan. He expressed concerns about its potential to lead to increased fees for the self-financing of courses within a competitive funding structure, and the university's dependence on non-state funding even for infrastructure developments.

Dr. Gupta highlighted that the plan places a priority on a market model of academic disciplines centered on skills rather than the critical development of theoretical branches of learning.

Another member of the Academic Council, Mithuraaj Dhusiya, denounced the utilization of a plagiarized document as the basis for DU's Strategic Plan 2022-47. Dhusiya vehemently opposed any instance of plagiarism and expressed alarm that such a document was under consideration by the top authorities at DU.

Teachers raised concerns about the strategic plan and called for its immediate withdrawal, highlighting numerous instances of plagiarism. They specifically pointed out that several segments, including the preface, were copied verbatim from foreign university websites.
