IIT Madras and FedEx joined hands to drive sustainability in logistics, foster innovation, and create smart supply chains for a better future. FedEx has granted IIT Madras nearly USD 5 Million to establish the Centre of Excellence on Supply Chains.

New Delhi: The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) and FedEx Express (FedEx) are joining forces to create the 'FedEx Centre of Excellence (CoE) for Smart and Sustainable Supply Chains’. FedEx has granted IIT Madras nearly USD 5 Million to establish the Centre of Excellence.
According to Raj Subramaniam, President and CEO of FedEx Corporation, "We aspire to make supply chains smarter for everyone”. This collaboration, backed by a five-year grant from FedEx, aims to drive sustainability using digital intelligence, technology, talent, and collaboration.
The inauguration of the CoE at IIT Madras by Mr Raj Subramaniam, Chief Executive Officer and President of FedEx Corporation marks a significant step toward advancing sustainable practices.
This center will serve as a bridge between industry and academia in the logistics sector, focusing on environmental and social sustainability through research and development in digital transformation.

The CoE's primary goal is to actively seek Grand Challenges and research-driven projects, encouraging innovative ideas. Alongside funding these initiatives, it will support startups in the logistics sector and promote robust collaborations between industry and academia.
Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director, IIT Madras expressed, "In collaboration with FedEx, we aim to establish a hub for technology and talent to drive sustainable logistics, optimising efficiency and strategic planning.”
Prof. Mahesh Panchagnula, Dean (Alumni and Corporate Relations), IIT Madras, highlighted, "Through this Centre and collaboration with multiple stakeholders, including FedEx, we aim to bring digital intelligence for more sustainable supply chains, benefiting the country”. The CoE will specifically focus on operations research, network planning, and delivering models aligned with UN SDG Goal #13 (Climate action).
