Government launches TULIP Portal to Provide Internships to Graduates

The Union HRD Minister Dr. Nishank and the Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri on Thursday together inaugurated The Urban Learning Internship Programme to provide internship opportunities to thousands of fresh graduates and engineers under the Smart City projects.

AICTE has created TULIP portal. Under it, students will work for 100 smart cities under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development. According to the portal, under 23,970 companies, there are 295,200 internships already.

Hardeep Singh Puri said, “We expect that around 25,000 fresh graduates will be enrolled in its first year. This will help curb unemployment as well. The interns will be selected for a period of one year.

“Currently, there are 80 lakh students studying in various engineering colleges in India. These engineering graduates will get internship opportunities in various departments under the housing and urban development ministry. In the near future, we will provide opportunities to over 1 crore students. I suggest other ministries also come forward and collaborate with TULIP to provide internships in their departments,” said the HRD MInister.

Students who have a bachelor’s degree in engineering or technology, planning, architecture, arts, science, commerce or law can register. The student must be an Indian citizen. There should not be a gap of more than 18 months between the date of declaration of the final year’s results and the date on which the internship is sought.

The internship lasts from eight weeks up to a year. The programme will allow applicants to share credentials, broadcast interests, showcase diverse skills, choose roles to be offered, decide stipend and logistics, and decide terms of engagement.

The amount of stipend offered would be at the discretion of the ULB or smart city, who shall be under no obligation to provide employment. The interns have to bring their own laptops, Internet connection, and other facilities as required. They will also arrange their own lodging and means of transport. However, any travel expenses incurred by the intern as a part of any assignment will be covered by the ULB or smart city.

A digitally signed and shareable certificate of internship will be issued jointly by MoHUA, the state government, AICTE and the ULB/smart city upon completion of the course.
