Indian Institute of Engineering, Science and Technology (IIEST), Shibpur had reopened the campus to conduct examinations on November 11 and 12, 2020.
IIEST Shibpur became the first institute across the nation to reopen its campus to conduct examinations.
The classes at IIEST Shibpur continue to be conducted online and no decision has yet been made to reopen the campus for the purpose.
The exam was held following all the required precautionary measures as an experiment to examine if the conduction of examinations was possible or not in the altered conditions.

A total of fifty-nine students appeared for the supplementary papers conducted on November 11 and November 12, 2020.
Only one student that was supposed to sit for the exams was absent. Students who stayed far away from the institution had requested for hostel accommodation facility and they checked-out on November 13, 2020.
The exam was conducted for students of the UG final year program and PG first-year program and the institute will now consider organizing other pending exams.

The hall of the examination was sanitized properly and candidates had to wear their masks throughout.
At first, the temperature of the candidates was checked, and after that, they were seated distantly from each other and wrote on sanitized answer sheets.
“Some students needed a hostel. We made arrangements after sanitizing the hostels thoroughly,” stated spokesman Nirmalya Kumar Bhattacharyya.
Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur is a technical and research university recognized by the Government of India as an Institute of National Importance under MHRD.
It was established in 1856 and comes under the Council of National Institutes of Technology. It has 16 departments, 2 multidisciplinary centers, and 8 schools of excellence under it.
