NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on November 2 heard a plea seeking a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to be followed for the ICAI CA exams 2020.

This year the Institute of Chartered Accountant of India's Chartered Accountant exams (ICAI CA) postponed from July 2020 to November 2020. Now the ICAI CA exams 2020 will begin from November 21, 2020.

The petition filed against the ICAI claims that the exam is scheduled to begin in less than a month and ICAI has not made proper arrangements for conducting the ICAI CA exams 2020 in line with the health guidelines issued amid the pandemic.

It is expected that a higher number of students will be taking the ICAI CA November exams on account of May cycle standing cancelled. This fact, along with the cap of 100 persons for congregations imposed by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs gave rise to concerns of the petitioners.

The Plea says that -

"At present, no safety Guidelines have been issued by the ICAI that determine the manner in which ICAI would be conducting the ICAI CA November Exams 2020 which would ensure the safety of the candidates amidst the ongoing pandemic and inter alia effectively control overcrowding of candidates at the exam center"

The Supreme Court asked the petitioners seeking for SOPs to sort out their differences with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI).

The Petition was filed by some CA aspirants. The bench of justices AM Khanwilkar, Dinesh Maheshwari, and Sanjiv Khanna heard the plea. The bench said that the plea has no question of law and was an issue of logistics.

ICAI advocate Ramji Srinivasan stated that a note has been circulated briefly answering all the raised questions by the petitioners.

However, the petitioners advocate Bansuri Swaraj contended that some of the issues still remain unresolved and they have filed a reply in response to ICAI note.

In the hearing, Supreme Court said, "Please sort out your differences with Mr. Srinivasan. These don't have questions of law, but are dealing with logistics. List day after tomorrow after you have discussed with Mr. Srinivasan. He is very resourceful."

ICAI will conduct the CA November Exam 2020 for CA foundation, intermediate, and final courses from November 21 to December 14, 2020 from 2 p.m. onwards in a single-shift.
