Institute of Chartered Accountant (ICAI) released an official notification allowing the students to provisionally register for the CA Foundation Course after the completion of the Class 10 Examination.

ICAI aims to provide high-quality education which is more contemporary and relevant to the global market. 

To develop the required skill set for budding Chartered Accountants, ICAI had submitted a proposal for amending the relevant regulations of Chartered Accountants Regulations Act 1988 - "Change in Entry Requirement".

The President of ICAI, CA Atul Kumar Gupta stated that for amending the Regulations 25E, 25F & 28F of Chartered Accountants Regulations, 1988, the ICAI got approval from the government of India.

It enables the students of class 10 to provisionally register for the CA foundation course after successfully passing class 10 exams. However the provisional admission will only be regularized after clearing class 12th.

ICAI: Objective for Allowing Class 10 Students to Register

The President further added that the basic objective behind this is to help the students to prepare for the CA Foundation course while studying for classes 11 and 12.

This gives ample time to students to update their knowledge and gain the required techniques to pass the CA Foundation Course with a good score.

In addition to this, ICAI offers online classes for the foundation course, which are accessible anytime and anywhere.

ICAI New Entry Requirement: Salient Features

The following section gives the salient features of the notification released by ICAI.

  • After completing class 10 examinations, students can provisionally register for the CA Foundation course which gives them plenty of time to prepare.
  • The 4 months study period can be completed before appearing for CA foundation examination, while studying in classes 11 and 12.
  • Candidates will be able to appear for the CA foundation examination in May or June immediately after completing +2 board examinations in March/ April.
  • Candidates could complete CA course and become chartered accountant 6 months earlier as compared to normal process.

ICAI: Comparison Between Old and New Entry Requirement

The following tabulation gives the comparison between earlier and revised entry requirements and eligibility criteria for appearing in CA Foundation Examination.
