IIT Madras commenced its first online BSc course in programming and data science on August 5, 2020. In the span of 3 days, IIT Madras has received more than 10,000 application. The maximum nmber of application has been limited to 2, 50,000. The Application process ends once its reaches the limit or on September 15.

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has begun its application process for its first online BSc degree in programming and data science.
Students who want to take the course can now apply through the website, i.e. onlinedegree.iitm.ac.in.
The last date to be applied is on or before 15 September but, as per the institute, the application process will be automatically closed once it has crossed the 2.5 lakh application limit.
Students will have to pay a fee of INR 3,000.
The course will be conducted online, while the evaluation will be conducted offline.

The course does not have an age limit and students who have passed class 12 may also apply.
Admission to this course is not based on JEE Main and JEE Advanced ranks.
According to Andrew Thangaraj, Professor-in-Charge, IIT Madras Online Degree Programme, "Since the launch of the program, we have received overwhelming interest from prospective students. We believe that this program not only embraces the trend of moving education online but also provides a platform for the creation of qualified and employable graduates in programming and data science.”
Students will receive a certificate upon completion of a foundation-level course, and a diploma can be obtained after one year, and a degree will be awarded upon completion of three years.
The course has been divided into six semesters. The course includes videos from the faculty, weekly assignments, and in-person supervised examinations.
Students will have access to four weeks of the course content of four subjects (mathematics, English, statistics and computational thinking).
The lectures will be completely online, and candidates will need to submit online assignments and write an in-person qualifying exam at the end of four weeks.
Those who get the minimum required scores in the weekly assignments will be able to write the qualifying exam.
Approximately 50 % of the students will be eligible to register for the Foundational Program.
