IIT Madras AMTDC Partners with Fifth Generation Technologies to Develop AI-based Manufacturing Solutions for Small Industries; Check Details Here

New Delhi: Fifth Generation Technologies India and the Advanced Manufacturing Technology Development Centre (AMDTC), a Centre of Excellence at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras), have teamed to develop smart manufacturing solutions for small and medium manufacturers (SMMs).

Fifth Generation Technologies India (P) Ltd., a division of the Canadian-based 5G Group of Companies known for its expertise in smart manufacturing solutions for manufacturers of various scales, and AMDTC, a division of IIT Madras, is a Centre of Excellence specializing in machine tools and production technology, have partnered. 

This collaboration's novel component entails upgrading and reusing previous SMM devices without controllers. IoT sensors will be used to collect operational data in real-time, effectively converting these devices into intelligent data-driven assets.

The development of AI and Machine Learning based approaches that enable real-time optimization of various machining processes within SMM facilities is the main goal of this partnership. These improvements can lower operating expenses and boost overall effectiveness. 

This partnership intends to promote manufacturing technology research and development specifically for SMMs.

The models created as a result of this partnership will be used as the basis for creating more "Digital Twins" that are suitable and inexpensive for SMMs. These digital copies can offer insightful information and aid in decision-making during production operations.

As a Centre of Excellence for Machine Tools and Production Technology, AMDTC at IIT Madras conducts business. The center works with the Indian industry to create homegrown innovations and was established as a not-for-profit registered society under the Ministry of Heavy Industry' "Enhancement of Competitiveness of the Indian Capital Goods Sector" program. While continuing research and development efforts in collaboration with other industries and government R&D organizations, it houses these innovations.

The collaboration's main objective, according to Dr. Ananth Seshan, Chairman of Fifth Generation Technologies, is to offer reasonably priced AI-based digital tools and processes that boost small and medium manufacturers' competitiveness. 

Additionally, this collaboration will use student interns to create and implement solutions at SMM facilities, aiding in the creation of a skilled workforce for the manufacturing sector.
