New Delhi: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has awarded diploma or degree certificates to over 860 students of the first batch of its online BS in Data Science and Applications program on May 27, 2023. The program was launched with multiple exits in 2020.
As per IIT Madras, Out of the total 860 students, 275 candidates have successfully completed the foundation level and two diplomas and 531 candidates have completed the foundation level with one diploma. For the upcoming batch, IIT Madras received 16,500 enrollments for the program.
18 students who joined the IIT Madras Online BS Data Science and Application Program have completed all requirements for the first-level degree – the three-year BSc Data Science and received their degrees. They will now continue the curriculum, working toward a BS degree.
Furthermore, 41 students received special certificates for academic achievements for academic excellence with the highest CGPA and a CGPA greater than 9.5. Candidates also received certificates of merit for securing a CGPA between 9 and 9.5.
165 participants enrolled in the program received financial support from the institute, out of which 150 students revived fully-funded CSR support. In addition to this, 43 students who directly enrolled in the diploma program received certificates during the event.
Informing about the program, Andrew Thangaraj, Professor In-Charge of BS in Data Science and Applications at IIT Madras, said, “The program also provides placement assistance to eligible students through this placement and internship cell”.
“The Industry Interaction Cell (IIC) serves as the placement cell for the BS Program where the objective is to prepare students with industry-specific skills and appropriate training, enabling them to leverage the best employment opportunities available in various industries”, he added.
