JMI New Pro Vice Chancellor Appointed by VC

New Delhi: Professor Eqbal Hussain has been appointed as the new Pro Vice Chancellor of Jamia Milia Islamia (JMI). He was appointed by the Vice-Chancellor of JMI, professor Najma Akhtar.

The appointment has been made with immediate effect till the expiry of the term of the present Vice-Chancellor or till he attains the age of 65 years or till further orders, whichever is earlier.

Prof. Dr. Eqbal Hussain has been working as the dean of the Faculty of Law, JMI. In June 1990, he began his teaching career at the National Law School of India University in Bangalore. In February 1994, he joined JMI. In addition, he was a professor at Zanzibar University in Zanzibar, Tanzania, from April 2002 until March 2005. On September 23, 2013, he received a promotion to the position of professor at JMI.

According to the statement released by JMI, Hussain’s main areas of interest are intellectual property rights, consumer protection laws, mercantile laws and jurisprudence. He is a member of the Indian Law Institute, Bhagwandas Road, New Delhi. He has contributed a large number of articles on contemporary issues which have been published in national and international journals.

The Vice-Chancellor also appointed Professor Zahid Ashraf, Department of Biotechnology as the dean of the Faculty of Life Sciences and Professor Tabrez Alam Khan, Department of Chemistry as the dean of the Faculty of Life Sciences of the university. These two faculties, a JMI statement said, were created recently by separating the faculty of natural sciences of the university. Professor Seemi Farhat Basir was appointed as Dean of Student Welfare (DSW).
