JMI VC Prof. Najma Akhtar Completes Term; Pro VC Eqbal Hussain Takes Charge

New Delhi: Prof. Najma Akhtar has successfully concluded her term as Vice-Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia. She transferred the responsibilities to Prof. Eqbal Hussain, the Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University.

Dr. Eqbal Hussain, a Professor in the Faculty of Law, Jamia Millia Islamia, will act as Vice-Chancellor until a new Vice-Chancellor is appointed by the University.

During the event, Prof. Eqbal Hussain appreciated the outgoing Vice-Chancellor for her commendable efforts in enhancing the academic and administrative standing of the university in recent years. He highlighted the significant progress achieved under Prof. Najma Akhtar's leadership, as evidenced by the notable NAAC and NIRF Rankings.

Prof. Eqbal Hussain highlighted that JMI Rankings have significantly improved and it is now the third top-ranked university in the country according to NIRF 2023, earning Grade A++ from the NAAC. He assured the outgoing Vice-Chancellor that he is committed to diligently safeguarding the institution's interests in both academic and administrative spheres.

The outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Najma Akhtar, expressed gratitude towards all stakeholders at JMI for their collective contributions to the institution's achievements. Extending her gratitude to students, teachers, and the whole JMI Faculty for their dedicated efforts in improving the university, Prof. Akhtar attributed the institution's success to the collaborative work of students, teachers, and staff.

She also acknowledged the support received from the Ministry of Education, Government of India, in managing university affairs and reflected on the challenges faced and successfully overcome during her tenure. 

Furthermore, Prof. Akhtar expressed hope for JMI to continue excelling in its pursuits and conveyed her best wishes to all stakeholders. The occasion saw a substantial turnout of staff and teachers.
