JNU Forms Committee to Discuss the Measures Required for Implementation of NEP-2020

Jawaharlal Nehru University, JNU on November 19 formed a committee to pre-plan the measures required for the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP 2020).

The decision to create a committee at JNU to deliberate upon the measures necessary for the implementation of the new NEP (National Education Policy) was made at the Academic Council meeting of the varsity. 

The newly formed committee has also introduced the new four-year undergraduate programme offered at JNU.

JNU Rector Chintamani Mahapatra said that the Academic Council purposefully discussed some of the major issues at hand in the implementation of the National Education Policy.

The NEP comprises the possibility of modifying the initial three-year BA UG programme into a four-year programme. 

The new policy might also offer postgraduate programmes on online platforms for subjects that do not include experimental or lab work.

He added saying that they are planning to strengthen the new policy further by including the system of University to bring forth better opportunities for students who belong from economically and socially weaker sections.

It also includes increasing the intake capacity of foreign students, and inculcating entrepreneurship and innovation among the students as well as faculty members.

Mahapatra further added that the committee formed will also check upon the other facets of NEP-2020 that are relevant for a research-oriented university like JNU

Mahapatra informed that the Academic Council has also decided to set up a Special Centre for System Medicine (SCSM) in the University.

SCSM is an initiative taken to understand the complexity of the interactivity of all the cellular and molecular determinants incorporated in the pathophysiology of a disease. 

The centre would purposefully serve as a national hub for the progress of India’s specific molecular and clinical data and its application in the field of system medicine, said the JNU Rector.
