Karnataka Govt Partners with Tata Technologies to Revive 150 Govt ITIs; Invests INR 4.6K Cr

The state government of Karnataka inks an agreement with Tata Technologies Ltd to upgrade 150 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) to thereby create increased employment opportunities for the new generation.

As per the agreement, these government-run ITIs would be refurbished and modernised at an expense of INR 4636.50 crore by Tata Technologies Ltd and other industry partners.

The official statement stated that skill development training would be provided, according to the latest demands of the industries.

Apart from Tata Technologies, around 20 companies are contributing INR 4,080 crore from their CSR funds. The State government would provide the remaining amount. These 150 ITIs would be upgraded, each at INR 30 crore.

The official statement issued by Karnataka Government reads, “It is intended to provide training in necessary skills to the ITI students based on requirements of Industry 4.0 ( i.e. 4th industrial revolution) and provide better employment opportunities.”

It was also mentioned that the scheme has plans to get more investments to the State through skilled human resources in varied domains.

B S Yediyurappa, Chief Minister, President, Asia Pacific, Tata Technologies, S Selvakumar, Anand Bhade, and Secretary to Government, Department of Skill Development, Entrepreneurship and Livelihood, among others, were present during the signing of the agreement.

The Chief Minister approved the Government-Industry partnership by stating that it will enable the youth to have hands-on experience in industry demand. It will also help the industry to have a skilled workforce.

The Deputy Chief Minister, C N Ashwathnarayan, revealed that through this initiative, it is expected that over one lakh youth would find better job opportunities every year. On the other hand, ten new courses are being launched on the basis of the demands of the industries.

The Deputy Chief Minister added that by upgrading 150 ITIs in the State, these institutions would be modified into renowned training centers. The time duration of the agreement is ten years and nine months.

During this period, Tata Technologies would work upon 150 ITIs, with developed infrastructure, industry-oriented courseware, training, and support for upgraded equipment and advanced software to help the students to find new job opportunities.

Furthermore, this scheme would also help modernize Karnataka’s ITIs into skill training hubs of international standards. Laboratories would also be upgraded by setting up new machinery and technology.

An appropriate syllabus based on the demands of Industry 4.0 is being planned for students. Electric vehicles, agricultural machinery, aerospace and defense, horticulture, and smart city are among the main domains that would be the prime focus.
