Neighbourhood Classes Suspended in Tripura after Significant Rise in COVID Cases

As per the latest update, the Tripura Government has decided to suspend the Neighborhood Classes recently launched to facilitate learning among students who do not have access to online learning.

The Neighborhood Classes have recently been suspended by the state government following a recent increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in the state.

The State Government has taken an interim measure to ensure that students remain safe during the COVID-19 classes.

The decision was announced by Minister of State for Education Ratan Lal Nath via a tweet from his official account. Subsequently, the Directorate of Secondary Education issued a formal notification confirming the developments.

Due to the alarming rate of Covid-19 cases,our govt has decided to temporarily suspended the Neighborhood Classes in view of the safety of the students, wef 29.08.20 until further notice.

Online Classes to Continue

While neighbourhood classes have been suspended in the state with reported increases in the number of COVID-19 cases, the state government has stated that it will allow for the continuation of all other virtual mode and online mode classes for students.

As per the official notification, live classes on local channels and the delivery of recorded video lectures will continue uninterrupted in order to ensure continued learning for students.

As stated by the Directorate of Secondary Education, the activities of Ektu Khelo Ektu Poro for children, classes held via video conferencing platforms and call-centre helplines for students will also continue during this period.

Neighbourhood Classes to Address Digital Divide

Tripura Government has decided to launch 'Neighborhood Classes' in the state to address the issue of the digital divide between students who have not been able to attend remote learning.

As part of the Neighborhood Classes, teachers were asked to hold classes for a maximum of five students with social distances. Classes would take place at the teacher's house or at the residence of any student in the neighbourhood.
