How Will Institutions Be Evaluated Under NIRF 2026?

The framework uses five broad parameters to evaluate and score institutions. Each parameter contains a separate set of sub-metrics.

Parameter What It Measures
Teaching, Learning and Resources Faculty-student ratio, PhD credentials, financial resources, online education and regional language instruction
Research and Professional Practice Publication quality and volume, patents, professional projects and SDG-related research
Graduation Outcomes University examination performance and doctoral degree completion rates
Outreach and Inclusivity Regional diversity, women enrolment, economically weaker students and disability access
Peer Perception Feedback from academic peers and employers

The NIRF 2025 cycle introduced stricter evaluation rules, including negative marking for retracted research papers associated with institutions.
