No Board Exams for Karnataka Classes 5, 8, 9, 11 Students; Check Details Here

New Delhi: The Karnataka government has issued an order to organize annual examinations for students in Classes 5, 8, 9, and 11, or first PUC, for the 2023-24 academic year, while only students in Classes 10 and 12 would take board exams. 

There will be no board exams for students who are in these grades, according to an announcement. This decision was made in light of several circumstances, with the goal of easing the academic strain on young students.

Alternative procedures for evaluating and promoting children to the next grade level are expected to be implemented by the government. The education department will most likely provide more information on these evaluation methods.

The annual exams for students in Class 5, 8, 9, and the first PUC, on the other hand, will be relevant exclusively to schools and universities that follow the state board syllabus.

In contrast to the Class 10 and 12, or second PUC, exams, the Class 9 and 11 annual examinations will be evaluated at the school and college levels, respectively. 

The Karnataka State Examination and Assessment Board instituted an annual examination for Class 5 and Class 8 students last year. The annual exams for Class 5 and Class 8 will be held again this academic year.

The exam pattern has been revised by the board. Earlier this month, the Karnataka board announced the three-board exam regulation, under which students will be obliged to sit three board exams, with the best one receiving credit. The Karnataka board has also eliminated extra exams.

The new board exam reform aims to provide students additional opportunities to improve their board exam scores by retaining the best results from the first, second, and third tests.

Overall, this decision by the Karnataka government reflects a broader trend in education systems worldwide, where there is a reevaluation of traditional examination systems in favor of more holistic approaches to assessing student progress and well-being, especially in the context of challenging circumstances.
