Panjab University has started the admission process for the 2020-21 academic session even though thousands of students enrolled in the university and its affiliated colleges are waiting for a decision on the semester exams.

Few days back, Panjab University issued a notice regarding the admission in which students including who have already applied for various entrance tests are required to submit an online admission form for UG and PG Courses.

Students are required to submit their form by August 8, 2020, a tentative date given by the university.

Earlier, PU students protested against the decision of the varsity to conduct end semester exams for final year students in July 2020.

The university has mentioned that students can submit the application form irrespective of the declaration of result of qualifying exam or entrance test.

Furthermore, PU will also release a handbook in the first week of July for detailed information on courses.

PU’s Common Entrance Test (CET, PG) is scheduled for July 27 and 28, and CET (UG) is scheduled for August 1.

“We have initiated the admission process for the upcoming session. For examinations, we are waiting for the directions of the University Grants Commission (UGC),” said Dean university instructions (DUI) RK Singla.

The admission process of the university has been delayed as compared to the last year due to the coronavirus outbreak. In the year 2019, the new session was already started in the month of July.

Professor Rajat Sandhir of the biochemistry department has said that the reactions of students to the new development remain a question.

“I think the university has taken the right step by initiating the admission process without any further delay. But I think the response [from the students] will not be good as many examinations are still pending,” he added.

The chairperson of the physics department, Professor Navdeep Goyal has said at least the schedule for admission of ongoing classes with online teaching should be given out immediately.
