Several NMC-approved private medical colleges in India offer MBBS at total fees under Rs 1 crore for 2026. Colleges like CMC Vellore, St John's Bangalore and KMC Mangalore remain the most affordable options for NEET UG aspirants.

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has capped MBBS fees at 4.5 years. This directive was issued through a public notice in April 2026. It applies to all NMC recognised private medical colleges in India.
The rule reduces the effective MBBS cost for NEET UG 2026 candidates. Several private colleges now sit under Rs 1 crore total fees. This includes minority trust colleges and older private medical institutions.
Colleges cannot charge fees for the one year compulsory internship. Interns instead receive a monthly stipend under CRMI Regulations 2021. Institutions ignoring the directive face action under the NMC Act 2019.
Private Medical Colleges Under Rs 1 Crore in India
Several private colleges keep total MBBS costs under Rs 1 crore. Most of them are in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Maharashtra. The table below lists annual and total course fees.
| State | College or Quota Category | Annual Tuition Fee | Total Fee for 4.5 Years |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tamil Nadu | Christian Medical College Vellore (Minority) | Rs 56,330 | Rs 2.53 lakh |
| Karnataka | Government quota in private colleges | Rs 1.53 lakh | Rs 6.89 lakh |
| Karnataka | Private quota in private colleges | Rs 12 lakh | Rs 54 lakh |
| Maharashtra | Private colleges (lower fee band) | Rs 6.2 lakh | Rs 27.9 lakh |
| Maharashtra | Private colleges (upper fee band) | Rs 15.6 lakh | Rs 70.2 lakh |
Hostel, mess and examination charges are billed separately by each college. Candidates should check the official fee notification of each institution.
Fee Structure Across Different Seat Quotas
Private medical colleges divide seats into distinct fee categories. Government quota seats carry the lowest fees. Management quota seats are the most expensive within the same college.
NRI quota seats attract fees in US dollars in many institutions. Minority run colleges follow separate fee rules under state law. NEET UG 2026 rank decides which quota a candidate qualifies for.
Eligibility for MBBS Admission in Private Colleges
Candidates must clear NEET UG 2026 with the qualifying percentile. General category needs the 50th percentile. Reserved categories need the 40th percentile.
Applicants must be at least 17 years old by 31 December 2026. Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Biology is mandatory. English is a compulsory subject in most medical colleges.
How to Apply for MBBS in Private Medical Colleges?
Admission to private medical colleges is done through NEET UG counselling. The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) conducts All India Quota rounds. State counselling authorities handle state and private college seats.
Deemed universities run separate counselling under the MCC portal. Candidates must first clear NEET UG 2026 with a valid score. State domicile candidates get priority in state quota rounds.
Choice filling opens on the counselling portal after each round result. Seat allotment is based on merit, category and preferences filed. Candidates must report to the allotted college with all documents.
The affordability gap between the cheapest and costliest private MBBS in India is nearly 40 times. This puts NEET rank and college choice at the centre of every medical aspirant's financial plan.
