New Delhi: Tamil Nadu Colleges will soon introduce full-fledged 5G technology courses in Undergraduate (UG) and Postgraduate (PG) programs for the upcoming academic session. These courses will shortly begin at engineering institutes in Tamil Nadu.
Earlier in October 2022, 5G services were implemented throughout the country. Now for the first time, engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu state will provide degrees to students in the field of 5G. Previously, this technology was only accessible to a limited number of companies.
A senior official from the Directorate of Technical Education (DOTE) informed that the All India Council for Technical Education will soon introduce various full-time courses on 5G tech to meet the industrial requirements.
As of now, DOTE is preparing a course curriculum in this regard. Only a few private institutions currently provide 5G part-time courses. More career prospects for engineering students would result from the addition of full-time courses, he said.
The officials added, “Recently, AICTE also organised online sessions for faculties in association with Skill Development Unit, Department of Telecommunication (DoT), and establishment of use case labs in engineering colleges”.
“Experts from National Telecommunications Institute for Policy Research, Innovation and Training (NTIPRIT) Research and Development and innovation cell of DoT shared their experiences and expertise on the development and promotion of 5G technology in the country, ” said the official.
According to the requirements of the company, practical assignments will be a part of UG curricula in 5G technology. The PG program is likely to be advanced, with students being able to build 5G networks using commercially available open-source tools, he continued.
The faculty would receive training by building use case labs in colleges, which will be utilised to create 5G mobile apps, during the first phase. More details and the official curriculum will be released soon on the official website of Tamil Nadu Engineering Colleges.
