On Friday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said her government was weighing the pros and cons of holding final year college and university exams in October before Durga Puja.
She slammed the Center over her decision to conduct JEE and NEET exams in September and said the "adamant approach" of the Union government would add to the Covid-19 woes.
"I told our minister of education to look into the possibility of conducting the final-year examinations in universities and colleges before Durga Puja in October. Online and offline examination options should be explored.”

"We're not against any exams; we're just saying a pandemic is on, and it could put students' lives at risk," Banerjee said as he addressed a Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) virtual rally.
Earlier in the day, the Supreme Court ruled that states and universities can not promote students without having to hold final-year examinations by September 30, 2020.
If any state feels it can't conduct exams by September 30, the court said it must approach the UGC for new dates.

Criticizing the Center for its decision to hold JEE-NEET exams in September, Banerjee said, "We asked the government of the Union to postpone the process because of the pandemic, but the government of the Union is adamant... it is busy preaching sermons instead of listening to the students' Mann ki Baat."
Amidst the pandemic, ministers from six opposition-ruled states, including West Bengal, moved the Supreme Court on Friday to seek review of its order allowing the Center to conduct NEET and JEE entrance exams this year.
