West Bengal: Private School Forum to Meet CM Regarding Schools Reopening; Read Full Report Here

The West Bengal Private Schools Association has decided to seek a meeting with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Education Minister Partha Chatterjee on West Bengal schools reopening.

The meeting was to request the state government to reopen the West Bengal schools campuses which are not functioning since March due to the effect of COVID-19 pandemic crisis.

School management members and principals of over 100 schools have engaged in long and careful consideration of the parent’s agitation and came up with a road map to reach out to them.

One of the School Principals stated, "While West Bengal Schools have been given a go-ahead to begin physical classes in the many states across the country. The possibility of schools to reopen in West Bengal is likely from December, once the Chief Minister takes the final call."

The situation is entirely opposite in the state of West Bengal but there is a possibility that schools might be reopened from December 2020.

The School Principal further added that the progress of students of classes 10 and 12 appearing for the board examination are affected due to the closure of West Bengal schools for a longer period.

If the board exam is to be conducted on time, students of class 10 and 12 are required to attend practical classes in order to complete the syllabus for the board exam.

Additionally, the West Bengal schools should conduct doubt-clearing sessions as well.

CBSE and CISCE board has already reduced the syllabus but the decision regarding the same has not been taken by the West Bengal Government as of now.

Other topics discussed in the meeting includes the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP 2020) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), which the schools need to follow before reopening.

MHA issued Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) are mandatory and should be adopted by all the schools before reopening the classrooms.

As per the reports, the West Bengal Government extended the lockdown of schools, colleges, and other educational institutes until November 30, 2020.

The West Bengal Government stated that Physical assemblies in schools and other educational institutes would be disallowed amid the ongoing pandemic situation.
