A West Bengal school in Paschim Medinipur has started the physical classes on August 12, 2020, which is against the government guidelines.
When asked about the defying move taken, Headmaster of BC Roy High School, Brendan Ghatak said, "The school is practicing all the social distancing norms and standard protocols. The students are also very enthusiastic about coming to school after staying at home for more than four months."

Earlier, WB CM Banerjee issued a notice asking all the state schools and colleges to remain closed till August 31, 2020.
Ghatak added that the school received a lot of requests from the parents and studies of the students were also getting impacted amid the COVID-19 crisis, due to which class 10 classes have been started in offline mode.

Further, the school is also planning to commence classes for class 11 and class 12 students again by following the precautionary measures. The school is however all set to shut down if received a notice by the Education Department but may take an option of conducting classes in open, stated Headmaster Ghatak.

Meanwhile, an official of the Education Department reported that the headmaster has already been issued a show-cause notice and asked to explain the reason for defying the government directives. The headmaster has been allotted 24 hours' time to respond and the district inspector will be visiting the school on August 13, 2020.
Amid pandemic, there are many states which have adopted the virtual mode to conduct online classes like the Telangana government has declared to start online classes from Aug 17. On the flip side, Goa has deferred the classes and is likely to begin the High School academic session in September.
Similarly, the WB school could have come up with other platforms for holding the classes, without compromising on the health of students.
