Is it good to prepare for the GATE and the IES simultaneously?

SR
Swarupa Roy Posted On : January 14th, 2021
BTech Mechanical Engineering IIT BHU (2018)

If you are preparing for IES then you can also simultaneously prepare for GATE as well with just a little extra effort. The syllabus of IES is quite vast as compared to the GATE syllabus. If your primary goal is to crack IES, concentrate more on the IES and study for GATE parallelly. If you are more interested in GATE, you need to make some extra effort.

However, if you are equally interested in both you can follow the strategy given below for preparation.

IES Preparation:

  • Read class notes and solve the workbook regularly.
  • Make short notes for each subject containing formulas, facts, and the new concepts you learned while reading.
  • Solve previous year’s questions for IES and GATE. Note down the important questions you come across. During revision, go through the short notes you made and the questions too.
  • Give online and offline mock tests regularly.

GATE Preparation:

If you follow a smart study plan you can complete the GATE preparation in just one and a half months. The syllabus for GATE is just like a subset of the IES syllabus. Both of them have several topics in common.

You can follow this strategy to crack the exam:

  • One month before GATE, thoroughly read all the class notes.
  • Solve previous year’s question paper as much as possible.
  • Take as many mock tests as you can.
  • 10-12 days before the exam, revise the short notes daily.

You can prepare for IES for the whole year and do the major chunk of preparation for GATE in the last 1-2 months. One of my friends followed this pattern for his preparation and was successful. But you don’t have to follow this plan blindly, you can make up your own strategy too.

Out of NIT Trichy, NIT Surathkal and NIT Warangal, which one is the best for a CSE?

KS
Kalyan Shastri Posted On : September 14th, 2023
Lives in Warangal

The CSE from all three campuses is extremely sought after and has a high reputation in the job market. They are often compared to IITs. The choice between the two is therefore a matter of personal preferences.

Warangal gives a slight edge to Surathkal owing to its proximity to Hyderabad, the IT hub of India although the difference isn’t much noticeable. Surathkal has a slight advantage in terms of campus life and weather. It is the only college to have a private beach.

Ultimately, there aren’t any major differences between these colleges. If you want a better campus life go for Surathkal but if you want better academic opportunities go for NIT Warangal or NIT Trichy.

What is the difference between degree certificate and supplementary degree certificate from Pune University?

AS
Aditi Singh Posted On : May 1st, 2026

difference between degree certificate and supplementary degree certificate from Pune University (SPPU):

  • Degree Certificate (Convocation Certificate): the official degree document issued during convocation (annual ceremony). awarded after successfully completing all program requirements. this is the primary degree document you receive at convocation. if you're present at the annual convocation, you get this.
  • Supplementary Degree Certificate: issued when you couldn't attend the convocation ceremony OR cleared your remaining backlogs after your main batch's convocation. it's essentially the same degree but issued through an administrative process rather than formal ceremony. it has the same legal validity as the convocation degree

both have identical legal standing for employment, higher education, and government purposes. the supplementary certificate just indicates you received it outside the regular convocation cycle. if employers/universities ask for a 'degree certificate,' both types are acceptable. contact SPPU exam section if you need a clarification letter stating equivalence.

What motivated you to choose the IIIT Bangalore and UpGrad's software development (Fullstack) program?

AB
Aditi Banerjee Posted On : October 10th, 2023
Lives in Bangalore

The full stack web development course offered by IIIT Bangalore in partnership with Upgrad has several benefits. It is an 11-month long program, but it is worth your time and money.

Before making my decision, I had a call with an UpGrad personnel and someone from IIITB. They described to me in detail how the curriculum was divided. I am mentioning the most important topics to give you a basic idea-

  1. Foundations of JAVA, Data Structures and Algorithms
  2. Backend (MVC, Spring and RESTful API’s)
  3. Frontend ( HTML, CSS, JS and REACT.JS)

Through this course, you’ll become eligible to work as a Backend Developer, a Frontend Developer, or a Full Stack Developer. All these roles are in high demand at present.

You’ll get hands-on training and multiple assessments to enhance your understanding of the topics. Other than that, you’ll be offered good mentorship and placement services.

These are the highlights of this program which motivate me to invest my time and money into it. According to me, it is a good course and you can definitely consider it.

Can anyone tell about the Engineering Design branch at IIT-Madras?

TB
Tushar Banerjee Posted On : March 31st, 2023
studied at Indian Institute of Technology, Madras

The engineering design department at IIT Madras is the newest department on campus. If you're interested in pursuing design-oriented courses closely related to mechanical engineering, this department is worth considering. The dual degree program in Engineering design has a good scope for campus placements, which are comparable to placements in the mechanical engineering department.

Although there are not many seats available for undergraduates, it's surprising to note that the department closes at lower ranks in JEE than other departments such as Civil engineering and Chemical engineering. The engineering design department also offers better core job packages than the aforementioned departments.

One of the advantages of being a new department is that the engineering design department boasts great infrastructure and classrooms, which are well-maintained compared to other older buildings on campus.

So if you're looking for a new and exciting department with promising career prospects, the engineering design department at IIT Madras might be the perfect fit for you

Is branch change possible at MANIT - Bhopal?

SS
Saurabh Singh Posted On : April 29th, 2026

yes, branch change is possible at MANIT Bhopal after your first year — but here's the honest picture:

  • done after Year 1 based on first-year CGPA and available vacant seats in the target branch
  • need ~9.0 CGPA for EE, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical branches
  • need ~9.5 CGPA for CSE or ECE (the most in-demand)
  • only 10% of the original branch strength can transfer — so if CSE has 60 seats, max 6 students can move in total
  • HS/OS quota is maintained during transfer (open seats can go to reserved category, but not vice versa)

what most answers miss — the realistic success rate for CSE specifically is extremely low. maybe 2-4 students in the entire batch actually manage to get CSE branch change each year. vacant seats are rare because CSE doesn't have many dropouts. MANIT has reduced the number of allowed transfers over the years too.

tbh, treat branch change as a pleasant possibility, not a plan. join MANIT with the mindset of making the best of whatever branch you get. a lot of students waste their first year stressing about branch change instead of building skills — which backfires both ways.

How can NIT Trichy become a top 3 technical institute in India by 2025?

GC
Gautam Chowdhury Posted On : July 18th, 2023
studied at National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, India

Although many are here pointing out the flaws in NIT Trichy that might make it impossible to become a top 3 technical institute in India, people fail to understand that an institution of national importance is expected to address these flaws at a minimum. NIT Trichy is an educational institute and not a company that would focus on making its customers happy.

However, if I were to point out the major reason behind its bleak chances of becoming the top 3, then it would be a lack of effective leadership. We aren’t sure if the fact that NIT Trichy would have passionate leaders in the future especially because the recruitment process is not transparent and lacks alumni involvement. Additionally, the directors and HODs have an absence of vision, leadership personality, and biases.

So, in order to emerge as a top engineering college, NIT Trichy needs to adopt an academic niche for itself, both in teaching and research. It should choose at least 3, 4, or 5 academic niches that make it stand out among other institutes.  Another way to become the top is to eliminate the rest of the flab.

Ultimately, adopting a niche, carrying out it well, and letting every director follow it is the key. Only then will NIT Trichy be among the top 3 engineering colleges.

Is it worth joining IIM Indore?

HJ
Harshit Jain Posted On : January 11th, 2023
MBA from Indian Institute of Management Indore (2021)

You have ABCL FMS, don't join Indore. You have K SP Jain, choose according to your domain. Consider Indore after that. You don't need to plan on giving another shot at ABC. On the second try, 80% do not get into better colleges. Indore is most likely the best campus in terms of peer interaction and crowd size. IPM students will captivate you with their knowledge.

The IIM label is phenomenal and well worth it. Many people don't even know much about FMS. IIM Indore is ideal if you want to become an entrepreneur. Their Incubation Centre has produced some excellent work. If you're worried about getting the biggest paycheck, don't be; most students don't stay in their first job for more than a year.
