Is IIIT Bangalore better than NITs?

SG
Sharad Gawande Posted On : May 4th, 2026

IIIT Bangalore (International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore) is a specialized research-focused institution — so the comparison with NITs depends on what you're looking for.

for CS/IT specifically: IIIT Bangalore CS is excellent, particularly for research and higher studies. very strong faculty, GATE-based MTech, and B.Tech programs with deep CS focus. for research/MS/PhD goals, IIIT Bangalore holds its own against top NITs.

for general engineering placements: top NITs (Trichy, Warangal, Surathkal, Calicut) have larger placement scale and stronger industry connects across multiple disciplines. IIIT Bangalore is narrower (mainly CS) but deep.

honest answer: IIIT Bangalore CSE > most NITs for CS research/higher studies. for industry placements in CS, it's comparable to top-10 NITs. for overall college experience and non-CS branches, NITs win since IIIT Bangalore doesn't have those programs. it's a boutique institution, not a broad engineering university.

What should I choose between NIT Surathkal CSE and IIT Kanpur civil chemical

AB
Aditi Banerjee Posted On : April 19th, 2023
Lives in Bangalore

I would recommend you choose IIT over NIT any day irrespective of the branch because it is recognized globally. The quality of packages and roles offered are also better and with the right motivation and determination, one can even change his branch to a better one.

At IIT Kanpur, I would advise you to go for Chemical rather than Civil. BTech Chemical Engineering combined with Masters in Petroleum Engineering is the highest paying bracket in the USA with more than 74000 Jobs available for outsiders in the Middle East, US, and Canada at a five yr median of $ 18600.

Additionally, at IIT Kanpur the ocean of electives to choose from enables you to pursue CS course side by side through certifications in 64/128/256 bit SSL Encryption, Data Structures, and Oracle which have great importance. While CS students can be found everywhere, you will find only a few Chemical Engineers.

Concludingly, it’s best to go for IIT Kanpur Chemical for the long term or IIT Kanpur Civil with a branch change to EEE or Mechanical in mind.

MBA from IBS Hyderabad or PGPM from IBS Gurgaon? Will the MBA from IBS Hyd worth its cost??

DG
Debashish Gupta Posted On : March 8th, 2022
MBA from ICFAI Business School, Hyderabad

Between these two options, MBA from IBS Hyderabad is better. However, you should know that the ROI for the degree isn’t that good. Due to the huge student intake, everyone doesn’t get the required attention. During placement too, every student doesn’t get placement offers. IBS Hyderabad placement highlights state the average CTC offered was 7.97 LPA.

If you are going to Hyderabad, you should consider other reputed management institutes like Ashoka School of Business.

What is the difference between AFCAT and EKT?

SJ
Sylvia John Posted On : February 15th, 2021
B.Eng from BITS

If you wish to get into the technical branch of the Air Force you'd have to crack the Engineering Knowledge Test also known as EKT. It is mandatory. For non-technical, flying, and technical posts, the most popular choice of graduates is the AFCAT exam.

The following points can help you in a better way to understand the difference between both exams:

  • The AFCAT EKT tests you on Engineering. The questions included are based on different branches and the area of your specialization.
  • All questions are structured to test your understanding.
  • Both the exams are in online mode and the EKT exam is scheduled after the AFCAT exam.
  • You will have to clear the AFCAT and EKT both if you want to work on the ground in technical departments; for the rest only AFCAT is compulsory.

Here's a table highlighting the important aspects of both tests:

Content

AFCAT

EKT

Number of Questions

Maximum Marks

Topics/Sections

Verbal ability English

Mechanical engineering

Electrical engineering

Electronics engineering

Duration

45 minutes

Marking Scheme

+3 for correct answers

Negative Marking

The table will help you understand the basics of the exam pattern. You can see that EKT is a short exam and the syllabus is different because it is more branch-based.

At the venue, of the AFCAT exam, a document verification will take place which will take roughly 1.5 hours. Your photograph and biometrics will be scrutinized and you'll have to sign the attendance sheet. This year the exams are scheduled between 20 February 2021-22 February 2021; you can keep yourself updated by checking the IAF website.

You must know that even after clearing AFCAT and EKT; you will have to perform well in AFSB which will decide your selection or rejection, so be very patient and careful in planning your schedule.
