What is taught in the first semester in BITS Pilani? What textbooks are used?
The first-year syllabus of every engineering college generally consists of basic science subjects, along with some subjects common to all departments of engineering. Here are the subjects taught in BITS Pilani during the first and second semesters of engineering.
First Semester:
- MEOW stands for Mechanics Oscillations and Waves. The “waves” part of the subject is easier and scoring. If you like Mechanics, you will find it easy.
- General Chemistry is also taught during the first semester. The quantum chemistry part is a bit difficult to understand, so most students just learn to solve problems in this.
- General Biology consists of interesting lectures. The exams of this subject consist of conceptual questions and so, you should have your concepts cleared.
- M1 is the first paper for mathematics, having series, sequences, and some parts of advanced calculus in it.
- Engineering Graphics is a subject in which you will be taught the usage of AutoCAD. It is better for you to get used to AutoCAD 2014 before joining college because some find this difficult due to poor visualization skills.
- The Labs in physics and biology are usually normal. You just need to be regular, work properly in labs, and be prepared for viva to get a decent grade in those lab papers.
Second Semester:
- M2 is the second paper for engineering mathematics, having chapters in linear algebra and complex numbers. The part of linear algebra is very scoring.
- The most important course in the second semester is computer programming, which has 4 units of credit.
- Probability and Statistics is a very easy course, even easier in the midterm component. Attend all lectures till post the midterm. In those, new concepts are taught.
- Thermodynamics is an interesting subject. You need to learn the use of tables, which is utterly important.
- Electrical Science is a vast course. Usually, most students have a low average in this subject and so, try to do well in the tutorial tests.
- Technical Report Writing is a small course. You will need to learn the format used in writing and write in brief.
- The workshop is considered a mechanical laboratory. You need to choose between sections wisely as per interest and do well in the 3-unit shops.

What is the CMAT cut-off for NL Dalmia?
NL Damia’s admission process is done based on the profile of each candidate, and every aspirant should appear for the GD-PI process. The division of mark schemes in the valuation is listed below.
- Entrance Examination – 40 marks
- Interview – 20 marks
- Group Discussion – 15 marks
- Academic Background – 15 marks
- Work Experience – 5 marks

What things should I bring with me for hostel at IIT Hyderabad?

How is the electrical engineering department in IIT, Kanpur?
Before dwelling into details, I would advise you to go for Electrical Engineering at IIT Kanpur, only if you are genuinely interested in it and not just because your rank does not allow any better branch.
The course curriculum is extremely challenging with little effort by the professors to teach and the students to learn. The course structure needs tremendous revision and needs to meet industry standards. The professors lack teaching skills despite being good researchers. There are too many quizzes and irrelevant lab work that will always keep you busy. Professors too are busy hastily completing the syllabus with no intention to deliver quality education.
The primary focus of students is on placements and not on gaining knowledge. The only advantage of this branch is the easy availability of internships and jobs. However, it’s not a strong enough reason to choose a branch that has poor course content and exposure. So unless you are genuinely interested in this branch, don’t waste your time and efforts on it.
Which one is better NCFM or NISM? Are they meaningful? Why or why not?
NCFM and NISM, both certificates are at par with each other. The basic difference among the certificates is that NCFM is organized by NSE (National Stock Exchange of India Ltd.) and NISM is conducted by SEBI (Securities Exchange Board of India).
- Both these certificates have different categories of modules specializing in mutual funds, derivatives, interest rates, equity research, technical and fundamental analysis, etc. You can do either of the two certifications, based on what domains are available as per your interest.
- NCFM started with the objective of spreading financial literacy at a basic level for every individual. While NISM is a mandatory requirement for anyone who wants to begin their career in security markets in India.
NCFM and NISM certifications are definitely meaningful. These will help you improve your knowledge in finance as well as add points to your resume.
Is there any difference between VIT Pune and VIIT Pune?
yeah they're different colleges! both run by same trust (BRACT) but separate campuses.
- VIT Pune — main campus in Bibwewadi, since 1983, NAAC A++, NIRF ~100-150
- VIIT Pune — secondary campus in Kondhwa, also autonomous, NIRF ~165
VIT is clearly better for placements. one thing nobody explains properly — some companies at placement drives don't allow VIIT students to sit, only VIT ones. so the shared placements aren't really equal in practice.
also heads up — VIT Pune has nothing to do with VIT Vellore. completely different institutions. VIT Vellore is a deemed university in Tamil Nadu. VIT Pune is in Maharashtra under Pune University. a lot of people Google VIT placements and accidentally read Vellore data thinking it's Pune — don't make that mistake when researching!
What is the present scenario of IIIT Lucknow?
My brother is currently studying at IIIT Lucknow and according to him, the current situation is not as good as it used to be earlier.
Here is why:
- As IIIT Lucknow is a completely new institute and as per the laws of MHRD, it was run under the guidance of IIIT Allahabad. Earlier there wasn’t any difference between the students of IIIT Allahabad and IIIT Lucknow. Even the placements of about 19 LPA were made by labeling them as IIIT Allahabad students.
- But in 2018, a case was filed against them to make IIIT Lucknow a separate entity. This resulted in the speedy construction of campus and the hiring of amateur professors.
- The campus wasn’t completely constructed and the students have shifted there anyhow. There were some rooms that substituted for classes, one hostel, one mess, that’s all. To this day, they don’t have proper lab facilities too. You will be given laptops which are to be returned later.
- Now coming to the placements, in 2019, IIIT L somehow managed to get average placement packages of 11 LPA. But for 2020, they weren’t able to call a single company. They also couldn’t get interns for the last year as well as this year’s batch. IIIT Allahabad, on the other hand, had an average package of 22 LPA and it is getting better every year.
At the end of the day, IIIT Lucknow is facing a crisis due to no experienced faculty, no placement/internships, and no alumni base. This is a matter of your entire career so do not fall bait to people from IIIT Lucknow stating that it's better than any IIIT. There is no comparison of IIIT Lucknow with IIIT Allahabad or any top NITs.
Does IGNOU provide a BA (Hons.) degree in political science?
Yes, IGNOU offers BA (Hons) in Political Science. In order to get the BA (Hons) degree, you will have to complete 48 credits in it, during the 3 years. IGNOU course materials are thorough and to the point. IGNOU study materials can be helpful if you are planning on preparing for competitive examinations such as UPSC. The degree has the same valuation as any other Hons degree.
What are the cons of being a hosteller at SSN College of Engineering?
The hostel life at SSN College of Engineering is worth remembering. It is a place that unites all the students and builds innumerable memories apart from different cultural and financial backgrounds, therefore giving you a family-like feeling away from your home. There is complete privacy and freedom for all the students.
- All the hostellers are attracted by the ambiance and at the same time, the hostel gives a complete study environment to all the students.
- You end up making lots of friends with whom you can interact and exchange gossips regarding the various happenings.
- There are different groups with whom you can debate on topics like cricket, or football leagues, discussing things regarding studies and whatnot.
- The mess is not that good so students eat mostly in various cafes or streets building memories with friends.
- Battling for water is one of the funniest incidents that often happen in the hostel. Students don't take bath for 2-3 days, which is considered part and parcel of college life.
- The rooms are well-ventilated with comfortable cots so that the students feel very lazy and sometimes miss the morning class.
The hostel life at SSN College of Engineering is full of freedom, it is solely your responsibility to use that in a particular way. You should create a perfect balance between your fun and studies and at the same time, you can enjoy college life to the fullest.
