What CGPA is required to upgrade from civil engineering to computer science at IIT Roorkee?

RS
Radhika Srivastava Posted On : April 12th, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee

At IIT Roorkee, students can change their branch right after the first semester, unlike other IITs where you have to necessarily complete a whole year. Based on the available data for 2018, the SGPA cutoff is 9.809.

Based on the above data, a student has to score at least 206/210-grade points to be eligible for branch change from Civil to CSE. However, it’s important to note that changing your branch to CSE is very challenging as you will be competing with more than 1000 IITtians (everyone is a genius) just for 8 seats. One required a high level of determination and motivation to be able to secure 9.3*. Give your level best and then leave the rest to your luck as it’s difficult but not completely impossible.

Should I choose IIIT Kottayam, Dharwad, Kurnool or Trichy?

PP
Pratik Parikh Posted On : September 12th, 2023
Lives in Bangalore

IIIT Kottayam is one of the finest engineering colleges in South India. You can compare the placement statistics of IIIT Kottayam with the new IIITs and see how it fares better than others. Even during its first placement drive in 2019, many big companies like NISSAN, L&T, and Reliance(JIO) recruited students.

The packages offered by companies like NISSAN were in the range of 6 Lakh-10 Lakh. These numbers portray how well the institute performed even during the first placement drive which the other new IIITs failed to do. Currently, the placement scenario at IIIT Kottayam is at par with most old NITs.

The institute has a great coding culture that is at par with old IIITs like IIIT Allahabad, Gwalior, and some NITs. You will be amazed to know that more than 70% of students cleared the initial round of CODE JAM conducted by Google. Another aspect that makes IIIT Kottayam stand out among other IIITs is its permanent campus which many new IIITs lack.

I feel you should join IIIT Kottayam without any hesitation!

Which is better, RMLNLU or NLU Delhi?

PG
Piyali Guha Posted On : March 29th, 2022
studied Bachelor of Law at National Law University, Delhi (2017)

Among these NLU Delhi is better. It offers great infrastructural facilities, a dedicated faculty base, and a diverse culture. The location of the institute offers students the opportunities to explore. It has many tie-ups through which students can connect internationally. Usually, NLUD is the first choice for all domestic and international conferences and seminars.

The institute has a huge library, thanks to the enormous grant. The classrooms are spacious and equipped with all smart education facilities. The hostel accommodation is pretty good, the rooms are airconditioned. NLUD has an enviable moot court.

In the present scenario, National Law University in Delhi can only be compared to NLSIU Bangalore and NALSAR Hyderabad.

What happens if one fails in the 1st MB in WBUHS?

RB
Riddhima Banerjee Posted On : November 2nd, 2021
studied Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery Degrees at IPGME&R and SSKM Hospital, Kolkata

If you fail the 1st MB examination in WBUHS, you will need to sit for the supplementary examination, after a gap of 3-6 months. If you pass that, you can continue studying for the next year. If you fail then, you will have to repeat your first year again with the next batch.

But you can easily clear your supplement and also prepare for the 2nd MB examination with some effort.

Which is better for M.Sc in environmental science DU or JNU?

VG
Vedant Gautam Posted On : October 12th, 2022
Lived in New Delhi

Both Delhi University and Jawahar Lal Nehru University offer Master's degrees in Environmental Sciences. However, there is a difference in the degree offered, which is primarily due to the approach to the subject. Candidates will be enrolled in the Masters of Environmental Studies programme at Delhi University, while the Environmental Sciences programme at JNU.

The distinction is due to the approach taken in developing the curriculum. Students at Delhi University are taught the socio-economical aspects of environmental sciences in addition to developing an understanding of the subject in the context of physicochemical and biological aspects of the environment (and their interactions). Subjects taught include "social perspectives of environmental studies" and "environmental economics." There is also a Masters in Arts (MA) programme for students with a background in the humanities.

The emphasis at Delhi University is on environmental ecology, pollution sciences, and biotechnology. Remote sensing, conservation sciences, statistics, geology, and environmental impact assessment are among the subjects taught. I believe the emphasis at JNU is more on the scientific aspect of the subject (which somehow seems legitimate since the degree is being offered for Masters in Science). Furthermore, 70-80% of the curriculum is shared by both universities. Though the JNU syllabus is extensive in terms of subjects such as hydrology and the fundamental principles/technical aspects of water and pollution movement.

Which is better, NIFT or FDDI?

PL
Prakriti Lalwani Posted On : January 20th, 2022
B. Des from Footwear Design and Development Institute, Noida (2023)

According to the reviews online, both are the top fashion institutes in India. They both come under the Government of India where NIFT comes under the Ministry of Textiles and FDDI comes under Ministry of Commerce and Industry. Also both institutes are accredited as INI (Institute Of National Importance).

If we compare overall, NIFT is much better than FDDI. FDDI Noida is only the best campus compared to other branches whereas NIFT has 5 campuses (Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai), all of them are at par to other fashion institutes in terms of infrastructure, studies, placements, extra-curricular activities, etc.

If you have a preference of a particular course like for Footwear Technology, Retail Management or Retail Merchandising it is suggested that you go for FDDI. But if you want to do B.Des or Fashion Design, Fashion Communication, etc. so for them NIFT is the best option.

Both institutions have tie ups with many reputed retail companies. So, placement in a reputed company is guaranteed at the very beginning of your career. So choose the institute according to the course you want to pursue.

What should be the preference among UIT RGPV, SATI Vidisha and INCT?

RG
Rishav Gupta Posted On : October 26th, 2021
B.E. Computer Science, Samrat Ashok Technological Institute, Vidisha (2020)

UIT RGPV and LNCT both are better than SATI Vidisha. Following are the reasons why:

  • Being a government institute, there is no pressure on attendance, assignments, and projects in UIT RGPV. Many reputed companies visit for campus placements. As per the recent highlights the average CTC offered was 4 LPA. If you want to pursue higher studies or want to get into PSUs through GATE, then choose UIT RGPV.
  • LNCT is a private institute and it is very strict regarding attendance, assignments, etc. Many students complain that rules and regulations at LNCT are a bit like school.
  • Placement in LNCT is best in the Bhopal region. In the last placement drive, the highest CTC offered at LNCT was 27 LPA. More than 400 companies visited the campus in the first year of the placement drive. There were many IT companies among the recruiters. If you are interested in joining the IT sector, go for LNCT.

I have a few friends from SATI Vidisha and they advise against joining the institute.
