How are the hostels in IIT Delhi, for girls especially?
The rooms in the IIT Delhi girls' hostels are rather spacious and decked with basic amenities. For freshers, triple occupancy rooms are allotted.
A typical room in a girls' hostel has basic stuff that every roommate shares such as study tables, chairs, beds, tube lights, windows, and other basic things. Other than this,
- The food served in the mess is of average quality.
- There are no AC or cooler facilities
- The girls' hostel is located close to the academic area
- There are 3 LAN ports in each room.
All in all, the hostel facilities for girls at IIT Delhi are decent.
Shall I leave my job as a deputy manager in SBI with 4 years of experience and CTC higher than 12 LPA for FMS Delhi?
Well, firstly you should change your perspective before making a decision. I don’t think your CTC should let you decide whether you want to pursue MBA or not. Change your focus from CTC to long-term goals and I bet you won’t regret this decision.
Getting an MBA degree from FMS is a privilege in itself. Moreover, you can relive your college life without regrets this time. The top-notch B School will open amazing opportunities and let you gain experiences that you won’t regret ever. But you have to prepare yourself to face classrooms, books, exams, and tight deadlines.
So you should leave your job and go for FMS only if
- You are passionate about your goals and not only high packages
- You are ready to face college life once again
Don’t adopt the sheep mentality and pursue MBA just for high packages. Rather try to learn something from it that will help you in the long run.
Which is better, NIT Allahabad or IIIT Allahabad?
MNNIT and IIIT Allahabad are both well reputed engineering colleges.
Here are certain differences between the two-
- Curriculum- IIIT Allahabad offers limited engineering branches, and is mainly focused on Information Technology. MNNIT also offers other branches like Mechanical, EE, Civil, etc. apart from CS and IT.
- Faculty- Both have experienced faculty members who possess great knowledge. But IIITA has a greater number of Phd. holders in its faculty, and it is more research oriented.
- Research- IIITA has a research oriented environment. Its faculty members and students engage in research projects in areas like machine learning, data science and cybersecurity. NIT Allahabad also has a good research culture, but it is more focused on applied research.
- Placements- Both offer excellent placements. Companies like Amazon, Microsoft, IBM, and Google visit their campuses for recruitment purposes. IIITA records a slightly higher median salary during its placements.
- Campus Life- MNNIT offers a larger campus, a more diverse student community, and a variety of extracurriculars. IIIT Allahabad has a smaller campus, and its main focus is on academics and research.
Both the colleges are equally good. Choose between them based on your branch preferences, research interests, career goals and college life expectations.
I am joining IIIT Ranchi (CSE). Is it a good decision?
IIIT Ranchi is a sort of independent now, and the institute has developed a fantastic coding culture. From open source to competitive coding, the environment is one of the best in Jharkhand, despite the fact that Jharkhand lacks many top-tier institutes. The institute is very flexible in terms of how education should be delivered.
You can hone your coding skills and find a good job here. Even during the pandemic, a student received more than a 20 LPA package in campus placement, which will undoubtedly improve over their tenure.
Out of the 103 students who participated in the IIIT Ranchi placements 2021, more than 50 were placed. Furthermore, during the 2021 placement drive, the highest and average packages offered were INR 20 LPA and INR 7.2 LPA, respectively. 34 students from the CSE branch were placed out of the total number of students placed. Leading companies such as Capgemini, Cognizant, Comm Vault Systems, Deloitte, HCL, Infosys, and TCS were among the top recruiters of IIIT Ranchi in 2021.
Now that the problems have been resolved, the hostels are reassuring. There are well-furnished flats, better than those found in any government institute. So, if you're willing to join us here, you will not be disappointed.
How is Presidency University, Kolkata?
Presidency University is good. It offers decent facilities and resources to the students. The laboratories and classrooms are decent. However, the infrastructure needs some improvement. The highlights of Presidency University placements show the average CTC offered to the students is around INR 5 LPA.
Overall, it is a good university. However, if you are interested in a science branch, then there are many better options available, such as St. Xavier’s University, and colleges under CU.
Does a two-year gap after graduation hinder admission to a top B-school (IIM, XLRI and FMS)?
You do not have to worry about that because not only my elder brother, but a number of other seniors and alumni of these Institutes had gap years. They were building a startup, or preparing for Civil Services, or even trying new skills. Let us check the selection process of these top business schools -
- The selection criteria are based on two levels- the first is by compiling the marks of 10+2, graduation, and CAT.
- The work experience is turned into a score too, along with professional certificates, higher education, academic and gender diversity.
- IIMs in particular follow this criterion and give the CAT exam a very high weightage.
- You can strengthen your profile by building skills or working on projects or a startup.
- The final step includes the WAT(Written Ability Test) and PI (Personal Interview).
The scores of these are combined and finally, during the interview, you will be asked about your gap years.
It is up to you how you can connect your gap story with your future goals. The MBA program is full of talented aspirants and the panelists select only those who can utilize the subject wisely and make it work for their goals. Gap years will be considered advantageous to your profile if something unique comes out of it.
How is Mithibai College in terms of placement?
Mithibai College has a great placement cell. They invite big MNCs for campus placements. You can get impressive placement packages if your grades are good. Some of the major recruiters that visited the campus placement in past are Morgan Stanley, JP Morgan Chase, Deloitte, etc. Other than placements, you can also get lucrative summer internship offers.
Is it a wise decision to choose IMS BHU over KGMU?
Many people consider IMS BHU better than KGMU due to internal PG. But the truth is internal PG at IMS BHU will only give only a single attempt to get an internal seat at a low rank. Moreover, owing to the rotation system in a particular year, there might be no internal seat for a particular branch for a specific category. If you happen to belong to that particular branch, you will have to be among toppers else you won't be eligible for internal benefit or state quota. KGMU on the other hand, will give you unlimited attempts with a state quota
Also, I feel MBBS is not just about PG, but also about the holistic development of the students. That being said, the IMS tag isn't as valuable as the KGMU tag.
So, I don't think it's wise to choose IMS BHU over KGMU.
What is your review of National Institute of Technology, Raipur?
As an alumnus of NIT Raipur, here are my views on this institution-
- Faculty- The faculty lags behind in terms of NIT standards. It is slightly above average. This is because their teaching method is not very engaging. That being said, the teachers are helpful. They will advise you to engage in extracurriculars as well.
- Student Interaction- The senior-junior interaction is good.
Despite IIT Raipur and AIIMS Raipur being in close proximity, interaction and
idea-sharing with them is negligible.
- Industry Connect- It has a good industry connection for some core branches like mining, metallurgy, and civil.
- Campus Life- The campus life isn’t good. But eventually, you’ll learn to cope with things and enjoy yourself. You’ll learn a lot during your degree from this campus.
- Infrastructure- There is a lot of room for improvement in the infrastructure of this college.
- Placement- Placement records are decent. Last year an average package of INR 10.1 LPA was recorded by the college. A total of 738 offers were made by 101 companies. Some of the companies that visit the campus for placements include- Infoedge, Siemens, Adobe, Barclays, Capgemini, FIAT, Reliance, TATA, SapientNitro, Oracle, Amazon, Samsung, JP Morgan Chase, Cognizant and Wipro.
Overall, I would say that NIT Raipur is a bit lacking in many respects. However, you’ll get a good chance to rise over here because of low competition.
Which one is better, IIT Ropar or Thapar University??
Both the institutes hold their own importance and cannot be compared as both are reputed colleges and the only thing that sets them apart is the term ‘IIT’. Having known some people studying in both these institutes, I can say that IIT Ropar is much better than Thapar.
- IIT Ropar has been ranked in the top 3 among new IITs for the past 2 years.
- IIT Ropar would give you a greater opportunity and a better peer group since the students studying here have secured a rank under 5000 in JEE Advanced.
- The placement status of IIT Ropar is amazing. The percentage in the CSE department has been more than 90% with an average of around 16 LPA.
- Mechanical and electrical remain around 80-85% with an average of around 8-9 LPA in mechanical and 12 LPA in electrical.
- Also, IIT Ropar has enormous research labs compared to any other new IIT. And also, it has deep collaboration with foreign universities.
- The students going for internships, jobs, and studies in foreign universities are relatively high at IIT Ropar as compared to any other new IIT.
- The faculty in IIT Ropar is qualified well enough. Most of them are done with their Ph.D. from top Universities across the world.

IIT Ropar beats even the other IITs in terms of infrastructure, faculty, and placements. And hence, Private Universities are no parallel to IIT Ropar.
