Ashoka University’s B.Sc Economics program offers a major in Economics and interdisciplinary majors in Economics and Finance, Economics & History, and in Politics, Philosophy and Economics(PPE). NMIMS offers Economics courses which include core subjects as well as subjects like Psychology, Sociology, Political Science, IT, etc.
Both the universities offer decent placement. Top recruiters at Ashoka University are 4 MC, Kenzie Banks, and other social sectors and the average package offered was around 6-7 LPA. In NMIMS 77% of the BSc Economics students got placement from 2016-19 batch with an average package of 4.6 LPA. Top recruiters in NMIMS are Ernst & Young, Deloitte, KPMG, PwC, etc. Ashoka University also offers good internship facilities and summer exchange programs.
Compared to NMIMS, Ashoka University facilities are much better. Most of the faculties of Ashoka University are alumni of Harvard, Stanford, Oxford, etc. The course fees for Economics for the first year at NMIMS is Rs 2.75 lakhs while at Ashoka University the course fee is Rs 8.18 Lakhs. The 3 foundation Physics courses taught to all engineering students in the first year are Introduction to Mechanics, Introduction to Electrodynamics, and Physics Lab.
- The courses were structured well, and the content was also interesting.
- While most of the topics covered overlapped with JEE concepts, there were additional pieces of knowledge in between.
- The assignments were intriguing and tested your skills and knowledge well.
- The exams were quite challenging and evaluated the students to the core.
- The faculty was very cooperative and was ready to help you with any doubts anytime
- Students that are enthusiastic about projects are given opportunities in theoretical/experimental work to expand their interest in Physics further.
- Decent internship offers are made to the students.
- Also, seniors who are in the Physics department have got good internships in India and abroad.
However, a BS in Physics is not a good choice if it's the placements you are after. It is a research-oriented program whereas IIT Kanpur provides an Engineering focused environment. So the best choice for a BS in Physics is IISER.
How is the integrated physics MSC course at IIT Roorkee?
Academically, the MSc Physics course at IIT Roorkee is dynamic. Some of the courses have repeated topics but for someone who is really into physics, the curriculum definitely suits his taste.
The research work conducted by the professors covers vast topics like string theory, theoretical high energy physics, quantum optics, fiber optics and lasers, nuclear physics, astrophysics, nano-materials, and condensed matter.
The lab facilities of this department are very lucrative for working with quantum optics, low-temperature superconductivity, functional materials, and lasers. The overall program lays more emphasis on experimental physics. The research enthusiasts get excellent research work in top research institutes during their summer internships which will enhance their learning experience tenfold. Students also get to visit famous places in India, Germany, the US, Australia, etc. and also publish great works. Some of the most common places include IISc, Bangalore, BARC, PRL, TIFR, IUCAA, SINP, and IIT in India whereas CERN, and Max Planck Institutes in Germany, Wisconsin, and Georgetown in the US amongst others.
Many consider the department a bit laid back with a less structured curriculum. However, real enthusiasts have been able to convert this weakness into strength by not solely relying on the curriculum but exploring much more. The Physics Journal Club and the number of papers published by students in PRD, PRL, MNRAS, CjP, etc. are a testament to that.
Despite very less scope in India, IIT Roorkee has been able to carry Physics to a great extent. The program needs a little revision, only the ones who are truly Physics lovers can pursue this course.
Can I get in to MDI Gurgaon for pursuing my MBA with low academics?My 10th score is 70.4% and my 12th score is 66.6%.
One can easily compensate for poor past academics by scoring extraordinarily well in CAT. Anything below 99 is not acceptable if your past academics are already below average. Moreover, MDI does not give much importance to past academics while shortlisting candidates. They give maximum preference to CAT scores. From what I heard, the interviews are very informal and friendly. Not many formal questions are asked so one can be their true self inside and portray their talents.
However, you should be able to justify your low scores in the later stage.
So focus solely on your CAT preparation with MDI as your target.
Which is better: the Anna University College of Engineering or NIT Trichy?
I don’t think comparing both the colleges i.eAnna University College of Engineering and NIT Trichy is justified. This is because both are equally good in almost all the parameters. Both ranked among the top Engineering colleges in India. I have made a slight comparison based on the following factors to make a better choice:
Placements: NIT Trichy has an upper hand in placements. More core companies visit NITs in general than CEGs. This is because NIT is an established brand name.
Higher studies: CEG is slightly privileged in this aspect as it considers the TN state boards marks whereas NIT considers JEE performance. So the former is easier than the latter.
College life: College life at CEG is better because of its location. You can eat outside the hostel as many restaurants are available near the college. But NIT Trichy is far from the city so options for exploring are fewer.
Lastly, keep in mind that if you are choosing NIT then go for Trichy or Kurukshetra only. Don’t go for any other NIT leaving CEG.
