Is it worth it to drop a year for IIT or the BITs if you are in DTU/NSIT?
It is a very personal choice. However, I can tell you about my brother’s case. He got into NSUT Delhi and decided to take a drop for the IITs. When he looks back at his decision, he regrets it a lot. It takes a toll on your physical and mental health when you obsess so much about something. My brother doesn’t regret that his Engineering studies got delayed by a year. What bothers him is how he neglected his physical and mental health, broke his connection with friends, and rarely went out, all because he wanted to get into the IITs.
Even after that, he couldn't get into the IITs and decided to go for ECE at NSUT Delhi. His mental state resulted in poor academic performance during the first two years of his Engineering life. Eventually, he got over it and worked hard during the remaining years of his B.Tech.
DTU/NSIT are pretty good colleges and offer students multiple opportunities and good placements. If you work hard, you can do great even without an IIT/BITS tag. According to my brother, no institution is worth the mental toll that a drop year takes on you.
How good is IIT INDORE for CSE?
IIT Indore CSE is a well-established branch and the program is rigorous with numerous opportunities. It's the backbone of the institute especially because of the rich coding culture it promotes. Here are a few pros and cons to make you understand the program better
Pros:
- IIT Indore CSE has highly qualified faculty that are amongst the most experienced in India.
- The institute is well known for its rich coding culture and the ACM ICPC achievements are a source of motivation for many.
- Being a part of the IT family, it definitely does well in the infrastructure aspect.
- IIT Indore provides excellent opportunities to its students and many are able to make it into Ivy League Universities.
- IIT Indore provides excellent undergraduate research opportunities and has many foreign collaborations.
- IIT Indore CSE placements are great and during 2022 placements the CSE branch managed to secure 100% placements with the highest CTC of BTech at INR 48.5 LPA and the average at INR 30.32 LPA
Cons:
- IIT Indore has a small batch size meaning you have fewer geniuses around you.
- The small batch size makes it harder to develop an all-around coding culture.
In all, IIT Indore CSE is a great branch and should be considered a good option.
What should I choose, AIIMS Jodhpur or AIIMS Bhubaneshwar?
Both the AIIMS Jodhpur and Bhubaneswar are reputed medical colleges with similar curricula and facilities. Usually, students consider the proximity to home while making this decision. That being said, most North Indians prefer Jodhpur while South Indians prefer Bhubaneswar.
The other factor people consider is the nature of college life offered by these. Jodhpur is a tourist heritage city with a very hot climate whereas Bhubaneswar is a capital metro with a pleasant climate. Had I been in your place, I would have always chosen AIIMS Bhubaneswar over AIIMS Jodhpur. Here’s why
- Trauma center: The trauma center offers practical experience and also trains the students to handle their emotions as a part of this challenging field.
- Mother And Child Block: A new Mother and Child block is on the way to promote Gynae-Paedia learning.
- City life: Bhubaneswar has a student-friendly life with many top educational institutes. Top colleges like XIMB, IIT, IIIT, NISER, and labs like ICMR, and CSIR provide a student-friendly atmosphere. These institutes contact sports events, fests, and science and you can attend these events and make great memories and get exposure.
I don’t mean to demean AIIMS Jodhpur especially when it has the best sports facilities among all AIIMS. Ultimately it’s your decision to make!
Why does IIT Madras have 85% attendance criteria?
Because of the advent of Internet facilities, students tend to skip classes and spend time gaming or involving in other online activities.
Initially, there were no attendance criteria at IIT Madras because there were no distractions like the internet and the attendance rate thus was satisfactory. But with increasing internet facilities, students stay up late gaming and then miss classes. This affected the overall performance of the institute and thus these attendance policies came into the picture.
IIT Madras has a strict attendance policy of 85% which ensures that students are
- Regularly attending classes and staying on track with their coursework.
- Fully engaged with their studies and are taking advantage of the educational opportunities provided by the university.
- Prepared for the future and to have a competitive edge in the job market
- Able to keep up with the pace of classes and not fall behind.
The Institute despite providing 24/7 Internet facilities expects the students to attend classes regularly and stay aware of the coursework.
Which B School should I join amongst: IIM Udaipur, NMIMS or IIM Trichy?
Recommendations on joining an IIM:
For individuals who come from top tier engineering colleges (such as IITs or BITs) and have a salary of more than INR 10 lakh per year in the tech sector:
- It is not advisable to join any new IIMs unless you are looking to change your domain or are in a particularly difficult situation.
- Do not expect to gain a lot of knowledge or make friends with similar backgrounds at new IIMs, as the student body tends to have mediocre backgrounds and may not be well-informed about industry trends.
- Do not join a new IIM based on the media relations people who promote the institute on Quora, as they may not understand your level or expectations.
For individuals who are not from top colleges and have a salary of less than INR 5-6 lakh per year:
- It may be beneficial to join a new IIM, as it could potentially improve your situation.
- It is generally a good idea to join a new IIM without hesitation, as it may have a significant impact on your life.
For individuals who come from top tier engineering colleges and have made poor decisions in their lives:
- It may be worth considering attending a new IIM if you are willing to endure two years of academic study in order to improve your career prospects.
For entrepreneurs or aspiring entrepreneurs:
- Consider the return on investment before committing to a new IIM. It may not be worth incurring a debt of INR 16 lakh and spending two years with mediocre peers if it is not likely to lead to a good job and a successful career. It is important to carefully weigh the potential benefits and drawbacks before making a decision.
How can I get a nativity certificate for Anna University?
The nativity certificate confirms that you are of Tennessee origin. The Tahsildar office usually provides this. The Anna University website provides the format.
The VAO (Village Administrative Officer), RI (Revenue Inspector), and Tahsildar must sign the nativity certificate. The VAO and RI are supposed to investigate your nativity's credibility. They need a few of the following items to complete the process.

What is it like doing an MBA from IIT Delhi?
The MBA program of IIT Delhi is much like that offered at any other B School. Doing an MBA from an engineering college doesn’t make much of a difference but the way you move forward with your degree does. The IIT tag proves to be very beneficial. Some other advantages of an MBA from IIT Delhi are
- The location of the Institute plays a good role in attracting top recruiters
- Great exposure and opportunities through industry interactions
- Provides the perfect environment for learning and growing as a person
- Top-notch infrastructure
- Good ROI
- Great placement scenario with the highest package this year at INR 36.7 LPA and average package at INR 21.9 LPA.
Thus the MBA program offered at DMS IIT Delhi is decent enough to be considered.
What is the current actual condition of NIT Delhi? Is it good or not? If I choose NIT Delhi over IIITD and NSIT/DTU, will it be worthwhile for me or not?
No, it’s not wise to choose NIT Delhi over prestigious Delhi colleges like NSIT, DTU, and IIIT Delhi. Your first preference should be NSIT or DTU followed by IIIT Delhi. So, NIT Delhi should be your last preference among these colleges.
NSIT/DTU are well-established institutes while NIT Delhi and IIITD are still in their infancy stage. However, because of their central location, all these 4 colleges have a decent placement scenario. Most IT companies from Gurugram, Noida, and Delhi visit all of these campuses. NT Delhi operates from a temporary campus N.I.L.E.R.D. located in a remote place, Narela. Most faculty lack experience and won’t be of much help in projects.
The hostel and classroom facilities however are pretty good and a 24/7 Internet facility is provided to the students. The college is remotely located so it will be difficult to find eateries serving decent quality food. Being new, the campus has an active club culture and lab facilities.
Overall, I feel NIT Delhi fails to offer the exposure and opportunities that other Delhi engineering colleges offer so should be your last choice.
Which is better out of GMCH Chandigarh, AIIMS Jodhpur and ABVIMS Delhi considering all factors? What are the pros and cons?
Among the 3 aforementioned institutes, ABVIMS Delhi seems to be the best choice in my opinion. A few benefits of joining this college are
- The best part is the PG quota and many students come here for the same reason.
- ABVIMS Delhi offers an altogether different vibe unlike those colleges reeking of rich heritage.
- The college has a state-of-the-art infrastructure but believes in old-school teaching methodology.
- There are interesting on-campus discussions that make the campus lively.
- The college also enjoys the locational advantage of being located in the capital of India and has many places to explore outside the campus like Talkatora Garden and Sports Complexes, Connaught Place, Patel Chowk, Karol Bagh, Raisina Hills, and much more.
