Remarks

Among the good highlights , i would say the environment of study is very good in gndu. faculties are also very well qulaified . Many mnc's come to our campus and held workshops guiding students how they should work to excel in their future. Cultural fest

Entrance Preview

I got admission in CET(common entrance test) in 2009. 85 percent seats of engineering were filled through this test at that time. CET is no longer taken and all the seats are filled on the basis of all india JEE test now.I opted for btech in electronics and communication at that time as it was very much in demand and one can diversify his career options with this stream.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

Course curriculum in gndu(guru nanak dev university) is good and updated time to time with the needs and demands of the market. Obsolete subjects are phased out and new are brought in as per the requirement. We were not having any option of choosing between any subjects but now the management has given this option to my juniors and they can decide which subjects they want to study based on their interest. Faculty is also well qualified and helpful. Most of the faculty focusses on practical approach of teaching and never encourages the method of cramming just to clear the degree.

Internships Opportunities

I got my internship in tcs(tata consultancy services) in noida during my final year not many companies come in gndu to offer internship. Most of the students have to look on for the internships on their own but i was lucky to get into tcs. I was paid a stipend of 7000 rs at that time and was working on an government project at tcs noida. The internship experience was awesome and it helped me to familiarize myself with the actual working environment in the it. I realized flexibility, commitment towards work, deadlines all are very important if one needs to survive here.

Placement Experience

4

Many mnc's like tcs, samsung, infogain, nagarro, amdocs, capgemini, tech mahindra ,thought works visit gndu every year for on campus placements and about 70 to 80 percent of the eligible candidates does gets placed in these companies every year. The average package offerred by mass recruiters like tcs, tech mahindra and capgemini varies between 3 to 3.5 lakhs. Samsung, thought works and ivp does offer package of 6 lakhs plus.

College Events

4.5

Technical a national level tech fest -iris is being organized at gndu every year where students from colleges of all over india participate in various cultural, technical, literary and fun events cultural- youth fest is held at gndu every year where students from different colleges compete with each other in various cultural events. An inter departmental fest- jashnn is also organized where students from different departments compete with each other in various events like bhangra, gidda, skit, mime, western dance, shabd, singing, etc.

Fee Structure And Facilities

There are separate hostels for boys and girls . Usually 1st year guys are allotted four sharing room and then later they are moved to two sharing room. Hostel charges are nominal at 12000 per month and mess charges are extra which depends on individual to individual. The quality of food in mess is not too great but satisfactory and the charges are also not too high. Some students does prefer pg's which are easily available outside the university campus at monthly rents of 5000 to 8000 per month on sharing basis. rates vary as per the facilities provided in the pg.

Fees and Financial Aid

For loans i dont have much knowledge but yes, there is a scholarship scheme provided by gndu. first one is for sc/st students under which tution fee of these students are halved and they are also given financial help in which some amount is deposited in their account for buying books and other necessary stuff.Students who are first in their sections are also given an annual scholarship of rs 1200.

Campus Life

4

Campus life in gndu is awesome. Fender ratio varies depending on the course in engineering course, boys outnumber girls where as in courses like b.sc, arts, social science girls strength is way ahead of boys. One can experience a rich diversity of students here as students from different states (particularly noth indian states)are studying here. There are 37 different departments in gndu like electronics, arts, computer science, english, social science, etc.each department has its own society which indulges in organising various seminars, competitions , events , workshops( both technical and non technical) at departmental level.there is no discrimination among students based on their religion and all live in harmony with each other. However since university is located in amritsar(punjab), majority of the students studying here belong to sikh community. Our university spends a significant amount of budget on sports and encourages students to participate in the same. We have an international level swimming pool and hockey stadium in our campus.gndu has won maulana abul kalam azad trophy for the maximum number of times as compared to other universities in india.

Alumni/Alumna

W does have an alumni network in our university . Personally i have benefitted a lot from my seniors. Their experience and the guidelines shared by them helped a lot to me and was very much influential in deciding my life's goals and excelling in my degree. One can easily discuss about the working environments in it industry and career opportunities in various other fields and their future prospects in the alumni forum.

Companies start coming summer internships in the 5th and 6th semester though ,CG cuts are imposed so very less students are elgible to sit for these companies, The real placement season is 7th and 8th semester and many companies visit campus for placements. around 60 percent students got placed in the recent placement drive. The major recruiters are: Oracle, CISCO, JPMC,Deloite,IBM,ZS etc.

Placement Experience:

Students generally become eligible for placement from 7th semester, with numerous major companies like wipro, cognizant and various tech startups visit the campus with various offers. The university sees a high percentage of students getting placed. The package are widely depending on various skill and codes. Furthermore while the highest package looks impressive on paper, the avg package remains modest for the majority of the batch. My personal plans after getting the degree focus on exploring independent entrepreneurial ventures rather than tradition corporate placement.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The interest in coding influenced me to choose this subject and course. The curriculum gets me ready for a 9-5 job which kind of gets hectic. The teachers could maybe schedule classes to give the students time to study what they want to and if they wish to do a course outside the university they have the time to do so rather than just going by the university curriculum
