Remarks

Overall it is very good for students academics and intra personal relationships.Very good atmosphere along with aesthetics improve students inner and outer well being as well as nourish them to be good citizen. Recently suicides have been reported which is quite alarming since the students have separate mentor to whom they are free to discuss their academics as well as any other problems.College has taken initiative to conduct motivation sessions for students especially arrear students to improve their marks as well as not to worry a lot.Yoga classes are also conducted for students welfare.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

Curriculum is pretty good and they revise it continuously to keep up to date with industrial standards. Special electives for each dept focusing on new tech is incalculated in the syllabus. Special interns and permission to do projects on foreign university that have Mou with our university is an additional benefit. Exams are conducted semi annually for each semester for 100 marks. We have 3 intermediate exams known as CIA for 50 marks. Best 2 cia marks for 40 marks is considered and another 10 marks for presentation, viva, etc. Another 50 marks is taken from seminar exam conducted for 100 marks. So students should concentrate on both cia as well as seminar exam.

Placement Experience

4.5

Sastra has almost 90% of its students get placement and job offers every year. So placements are very good. Reputed companies for each depts recruit students in large numbers. IT-Infosys, Wipro, TCS, Musigma, etc. Mech-Ford, Hyundai, L&T, etc. Aero-HAL, etc. Big Pharma giants and natural gas oil companies recruit from bio tech and chem dept. Electrical has high scope from Schneider, etc. Internships are provided to do final projects in abroad through SAP program and half of the cost is reimbursed by university. Monthly stipend of fixed amount is given to students.

College Events

4

Many events are celebrated throughout the year for cultural fest as well as academics. Carpediem-This grand academic fest takes place for 3 days. It consists of practical vis games, pop quiz, science fairs, techno events, etc. It is a great opportunity for expressing your academic curiosity and ideas. The students from various colleges participate too and form a unique bonding with students. Cherry on the cake is final day culturals which is a treat for your eyes. Collosseum-Biggest sports fest in Thanjavur, Trichy districts. Students from around 50 universities participate to showcase their finesses and athletic abilities. Event span around for 3 days and both indoor & outdoor sports are conducted. National level players participate and Judges from national sports council preside over the function. University has finest grounds for football, 400m athletic track, handball, kabaddi courts too. Our students have inter sports meet where students from various hostels participate. KURUKSASTRA-One of the grandest and finest cultural fest across Tamil Nadu. Event span for 3 days and students from around 150 colleges participate. Dance, music, drama, mime, acting, instrumental, thespian and many more cultural events take place and judged by eminent figures from respective fields. Music fest is done by prominent cine music stars and their bands. It also has food fest where we can taste the wide variety of cuisine from all over country. This event is trademark of SASTRA and no one should miss it.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Fee structure is very much feasible if you get placed through merit list which is almost 75% of students. The semester fee is 65000 INR. The exam fees and breakage due will also be present and that amounts to 2000 INR. This is very much feasible for lower and middle income families. For NRIs, the annual fee of 4000 USD is present along with separate exam and breakage fees.

Fees and Financial Aid

I didn't avail any scholarships but now during admission, CUB bank present inside our campus is providing student loan at minimum interest for lower income families and anyone needed. University also gives scholarships to students who had scored very good percentage in 12th by waiving some percentage of tuition fees and also national scholarships are provided for students who have very good CGPA in their courses.

Campus Life

3.5

Various extracurricular activities are present. Separate English, Tamil and Hindi clubs, dance clubs, music clubs, aero wing, mecazzo, Thespian and mime clubs are also present. Students can participate in inter college competitions and also in fests in NITs and IITs. All the depts have labs for practical works. We also have separate research facilities for nano tech and TIFAC for advanced computing. College also has ties with DRDO and various govt org., to conduct research in various fields. Since I am in mech dept., I can list out labs in our dept. Cad/cam, aerodynamics, physics, chemistry, mechatronics, dynamics, metrology, thermal and heat transfer lab, etc. Each dept has various labs to cater to their practical courses. Most of them are well equipped with latest models instruments and gadgets. Football ground and 400 m athletic tracks is available. Latter can also be a makeshift cricket ground. Badminton court, tennis court, basketball and handball court is also present. Separate head coach is there to guide students in their respective fields. Indoor sports such as carrom, chess is also available for students who interested. Gym and bodybuilding contests are also present for students. Gym has separate consultant who guides students there. Sports is given very importance as that of academic and it is pretty decent.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

There are 7 hostels for gents and 4 for ladies. Hostel is good but food needs to be improved. Only vèg food is provided for students that cater to both north and south. Infrastructure is very good with courts for badminton and small rec area along with tennis courts are also present. Hostel has various amenities such as free wifi, canteens, stationery and also small clinic. Rooms are available in 2 in 1, 3 in 1, 4 in 1, 6 in 1 and single room. Bathroom facilities are very good and hygienic and cleaned twice daily. 24/7 water facilities are also present, Purified drinking water is available throughout the hostel. Each room is equipped with desks shelves and cupboards along with writing desks for students. For 1 st years separate hostel (SPS, RLV) are provided to avoid any ragging issues. Mess is present in all hostels for students. Food is served through buffet method along with evening snacks and milk. If needed, students can opt for special foods. Overall hostel infra is very good and food can be still improved. Ladies hostels are also equipped as above said. Ladies are not permitted to go outside hostel after 7 pm. For ladies who want to have hotel food, it can door delivered directly from canteens and food courts present inside college.

Alumni/Alumna

Separate alumni association is available where students can register. Annual alumni association gathering takes place in college. It is indeed helpful to liaise communication with seniors for job opportunity. SAP programme students stay 1 month in alumni guided rooms before moving to their own rooms

Admission

Admission is strictly based on 12th marks and JEE marks. Admissions take place on 3 categories: stream 1 to 3. Local students from Thanjavur and Trichy are also given priority. Then NRI quota is present but it costs you a lot more due to donations. But overall admissions are strictly guided by merit list.

Faculty

4

The faculty is very good and should at least have completed their M.Tech from reputed university. Due to recent credit score update from NAAC, all the professors should complete their Ph.D.'s in their chosen field. This gives us opportunity to work along with them in our projects. Most of the classes are done through PPTs by staffs. Special classes for required students are also provided by staff which is good. Most of them have thorough subject and practical knowledge of their course syllabus and they provide additional valuable inputs which comes handy for us. Most faculty are engaged in research projects and it helps student who wants to do intern with prof. Overall faculty is more than good and highly skillful.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I chose this course because it covers important subjects related to computer science, programming, databases, networking, and emerging technologies. The combination of theoretical knowledge and practical subjects influenced my decision to choose this course. The curriculum provides a good foundation in technical concepts and programming. However, more practical projects, industry-based training, internships, and real-world applications would help students become better prepared for careers and further studies.
