IIM Kozhikode Review

IIM K is in Kerala, so it's mostly rainy here. Get a raincoat and umbrella here. The college has a wonderful pedagogy focusing on case studies. The food here is a little different from what is offered in any other part of India. So, people from other parts of India will take time to acclimatize. There are some subjects that are very elementary and one might consider them to have no value addition. But they'll help in the long turn.

The course curriculum is up to date. Our college follows a mix of theory-based and case-based approaches to pedagogy. There are six terms and every term we have to give mid-term and final examinations. There are also some quizzes in between.

The placements are one of the best any college can offer. Being one of the older IIMs, IIM K attracts recruiters from all over the world. All the big brands and firms are here for recruitment. Our college provides internship opportunities as well. Internships are for a period of 8-10 weeks where we are exposed to the industry.

There are all sorts of events ranging from sports fests, cultural fests, and management fests. Our college also has a separate marketing fest. Sangram, the sports fest is an inter IIM tournament where all the IIMs of South India compete. Echoes is the cultural fest of our college and is the largest cultural fest of South India.

The fee structure is similar to all the other IIMs. MBA in India is generally an expensive degree and our college to lies in this category. The overall feel of the two-year course is around rupees 20 lakhs excluding the 5 lakh rupees which you have to pay for Forex.

There are various scholarships offered by our institute. The scholarships are mentioned on the college website. There is a separate student body that helps the students gain access to the best loans available. We have a tie-up with SBI and it offers special loans to IIM K students.

There are a plethora of extracurricular activities that can be pursued in IIM K. One can become a part of any committee, interest group, or club here. One can take part in any sport also. The college is lacking in terms of sports infrastructure to some extent but the infrastructure projects are in the process right now.

Hostel infrastructure is great but that is expected from an institute having such a fee structure. There are other facilities also for the students including night mess and transport facilities. We get automatic washing machines in every hostel for washing clothes and everyone has a balcony. There are sports equipment in every hostel including a TT table and Pool Table.

IIM K has a globalized alumni network. There are Alumni clubs in every part of the world and they have their own meets at regular intervals. IIM K has its own Alumni Meet every year where many alumni from various industries come together to impart knowledge to the students. The senior-junior network is also present here. Every senior is assigned a junior who he helps throughout the 1st term including preparing the student's CV and informing him/her about the complete Summer Internship Process.

I cleared CAT 2018 and got shortlisted for the WAT/PI process for IIM Kozhikode. There were 2 questions in the WAT process - 1 general awareness-based and 1 experience-based. After that, we had a personal interview where 3 panelists took my interview. I got the final shortlist after the WAT/PI process and my name was there in the second shortlist.

The faculty are veterans in their field having both industry as well as teaching experience. Every professor has graduated from a well-reputed management college and has prior teaching experience. They also conduct research and go for business conclaves.
