Remarks

Very Poor. The teachers, the management, the officials could make it better. Our college has had a humongous potential of being a great one. It was created during the historical event of Bengal partition, 1905 by the help of legendary pioneers and freedom fighters. But the current system is merely trying to make it a better one.

Course Curriculum Overview

1

In our times CU used to conduct only one exam per year i.e. the final exam. In college there is pre test and test. But nowadays it's semester based, so the exam pattern has been changed. No, it's not research driven or anything such, you've to develop yourself at your own, they just maintain a stereotype education policy like other B grade colleges of Calcutta University.

Placement Experience

0.5

Basically it is an ordinary college, so there's no such option of placement or campussing. There were few seminars on science and different topics, but our college don't conduct campussing, or I should say companies don't find the resources that much useful.

College Events

1

There's freshers, which is conducted to welcome the newcomers, I attended it once, when I was a fresher. Also there is social (annual function pf the college) and few seminars on Physics, Geography and literary topics. No fest is conducted like engineering/medical or other top colleges of CU.

Fee Structure And Facilities

They charge 6-7k per year for theoretical and practical classes combined. If your higher secondary result is tremendously poor or you've bunked your studies for few years after HS and you want to get admitted to Calcutta University somehow, then you might want to take help of the students union which might help you to get admission in your desired stream in exchange of a good amount of money.

Fees and Financial Aid

College offers subsidies on college fees for economically weaker students, which is around ?500/-, I availed it once. Besides of this, I applied for OBC scholarship from govt. portal and they (the govt.) provided me an amount of ?5.2k for one year

Campus Life

1.5

In one word - Poor. Gender ratio is so poor if I talk particularly about my department i.e. physics. I remember we were 18-20 boys on first year batch and there was 2 girls. There is sports event which is celebrated once per year. Being a science student, we hardly knew things about it. No other events like robotics or debates, our college is below average in terms of everything. Be it the behaviour of the officials, the faculties or the quality of infrastructure.

Hostel Facilities

1

Nope, there's no hostel facilities available for this college. But I stayed at hostel in my last year of graduation (3rd year) which is a minority hostel provided by University of Calcutta. The charges of hostel is pretty low due to govt. facilities. The hostel named 'University Carmichael Hall', is allotted on the basis of the distance between your college and your original residence. Those, who lived far from kolkata, i.e. those from North Bengal get the advantage. University takes the whole hostel charge in advance which is around 1.5-2k per year. This hostel is very much affordable and one of the top hostels of West Bengal.

Alumni/Alumna

Senior students were helpful to us, in order to take tips on how to maintain the studies and queries on laboratory works they helped a lot. But we lacked a proper network of connection between us. I wish there was a group to keep us in touch, but there wasn't.

Admission

I applied for Physics honours after Higher Secondary exam in several colleges. I got selected through merit list based on higher secondary marks. This institution is a morning section of Bangabasi group of colleges and I preferred this because of less number of students, good infrastructure and good faculties. In order to get admission to this institution, you need to apply online/offline after the notification comes out (after one or two months later of HS exam) through the college official website.

Faculty

0.5

Usually we attended our theoretical lectures in first year only, after that there was only practical classes. Lecturers have had theoretical experiences only. The practical or industrial experience was lacked. Most of the professors are demotivational, they demotivate and harass the students and find their enjoyment out of it.

Placement Experience:

People who major in my department usually opt for masters over placement not because of this college but because overall industrial or academic opportunities are better with a pg degree. Masters from this college is not recommended as i have heard so from my seniors. Some of my seniors managed to crack competitives and secure MSc seats at great places. Training and Placement cell had a good coordinator previously but now its almost non existent. Companies do come and hire Bpharm, Mpharm and MSc candidates. Packages are below average. Only Nestle pays well. But if you do well you'll eventually climb up the corportate ladder. From the time i am here i have not heard of any BSc candidate getting placed. Most go for higher studies.

Placement Experience:

The average package offered for such roles ranges between ?2–3 LPA, while the highest package offered to a BSc student is around ?4 LPA, depending on skills and specialization. Overall, around 15–20% of BSc students get placed through campus drives, and many students rely on off-campus opportunities.

The course is very relevant as it provides us an overall knowledge of biology and not dividing it into various sections rather giving us an insight of every aspect of biology. It includes everything such as microbiology, zoology, botany, physiology, molecular biology and so on.

Completely relevant. As the college is autonomous it has its own syllabus. Which matches with the net gate jam exam syllabus. When someone came our college for seminar they strange that we know this much. Exam are quite difficult in 2 months interval.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum was well thought out as per me but there were subjects that i found absolutely unnecessary. Subjects like history evs and clc were in no way related to my course. Coming to the main subjects Design, Printing, Photography and film and Media Training were absolutely necessary for my course and whilst the faculty for some of these subjects were really bad, some were good. It is also important to mention none of these subjects actually helped us prepare for the real world. Instead internships and freelance helped us more than these subjects could ever do. Exams were held bi monthly to keep track of what we learnt and every 6 months we had our semester exams. Overall if you want to be a media professional INTERNSHIPS AND JOBS WILL HELP YOU MORE THAN A COLLEGE WILL. I am biased on this opinion as my college didnt provide me with the correct guidance and support i needed to make it in the real world.

In case of computer science department, placement is provided at the Last year of M.sc course. Many companies like Wipro, b10x, Tata visited here. Highest package ever is three lakh per annum. 20-40% of the students got placement after completing M.Sc computer science. My plan after B.sc is to pursue MCA.

Course Curriculum Overview:

* It's all about practical knowledge, we are getting from this course and another aspect is if you wants to make your career in research or lecturer then you should go for it. *No changes required in teaching methods but if college will provide hostel facilities and campus requirement drive, then it will better for candidates.
