Remarks

In a nutshell, our college might lack some practical implementation of the subjects being taught here but the vast campus and its greenery along with the college management overpowers all the faults. Our university has also got NAAC accredition and is one of the top universities of the world.

Entrance Preview

Way back in April 2013, I appeared for the jee mains exam and I scored 160 marks out of 360 with an AIR of 44k. Unable to get a good course having a good scope, I estranged the option of doing biotechnology in NIT jalandhar and chose Computer science and engineering(cse) in my city Amritsar. I got the seat quite easily in the first round of counselling here and the course began in mid july 2013.

Course Curriculum Overview

3

The course curriculum offers you electives only in the third year. Before that, all the subjects are compulsory and carry credits for the tutorials, practicals if any and lectures. These credits along with the marks decide your sgpa of a semester and hence, the CGPA in the end of the degree which is cumulative average of all the sgpa.

Internships Opportunities

Our college doesn't provide any internship for the computer science students. However, the students in electronics and communication engineering have a training at the end of 2nd semester. However, the placement cell keeps on updating the students if any company offers an internship.Coming to the placements, major companies also known as the mass recruiters like TCS visit our campus on the first day of placement session. Other companies like nagarro, capegemini, infogain, amdocs, tech mahindra etc also visit our campus.

Placement Experience

4

As per the results of this year, TCS placed over 300 students from the university. It offers a package of 2.8 lacs approx. Capegemini offers 2.7 lacs and placed about 145 students. Nagarro placed 7 students with a package of about 4 lacs. And so on.

College Events

5

Every year, our university organises youth fest for all the department's and it is an inter college competition having cultural events and craft events only.Another fest named jashan is an inter department fest organised by the university and it also has cultural events and other debates and painting events.Apart from that, technical fest IRIS is organized in every alternate year by the computer science department.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Since its a semi govt. Institution, so it's fee structure is quite feasible. For the odd semesters in btech degree, the fees is around 59k whereas for the even semesters, it sums to 42k.

Fees and Financial Aid

Our university provides a 50 percent and full fee concession (depending upon the case) to the students hailing from economically weaker backgrounds after proper verification of the case. Apart from that, it rewards the precocious students who have done a remarkabe job in some project or any creativity of their own.

Campus Life

4

There is no such thing in my class that boys exceed the girls in number because it's an engineering degree. In fact, girls number exceed the boys. The hostelers get a hostel night to attend which is a mesmerizing experience for them every year. (Alas! Not for the localities.) Workshops are also organised by our department's HOD from time to time on topics like cloud computing, ethical hacking etc. We have a cultural and technical society named CESS and is managed by students entirely. It organises technical and literary events every week.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

Being a localite, I cannot tell much about the hostel facilities and mess food. Although, my friends living in the hostels complain a lot about the ill infrastructure of the old hostel. But since now, they live in the mega hostel, they are quite satisfied with the food and facilities both.

Alumni/Alumna

Most of the teachers in our department on contract basis are the alumni of our campus. They guide us well, so it's like a teacher cum senior junior relationship with them. The alumni who are placed in various big firms have also formed a TURING MACHINE SCHOLARSHIP club which appreciates the meritorious students for their commendable projects in various fields like web development, coding etc.

Exam Structure

Candidly speaking, not much heed is paid towards the practicals of any subject in our university. The infrastructure is well equipped as compared to other regional campuses but it is not maintained properly. The exams are held thrice in every semester. There are a total of 8 semesters, 2 semesters in a year, thus, making it a 4 year degree. The first 7 semesters comprise of 2 minor exams of 20 marks each for every subject and 1 major carrying a weightage of 50 marks. Rest 10 marks are kept for assignment, quiz etc.

Faculty

3.5

Besides the permanent faculty, we also have ad hoc teachers and teachers on a contract basis. The classrooms are well equipped with projectors which the teachers use in their lectures.

Companies start coming summer internships in the 5th and 6th semester though ,CG cuts are imposed so very less students are elgible to sit for these companies, The real placement season is 7th and 8th semester and many companies visit campus for placements. around 60 percent students got placed in the recent placement drive. The major recruiters are: Oracle, CISCO, JPMC,Deloite,IBM,ZS etc.

Placement Experience:

Students generally become eligible for placement from 7th semester, with numerous major companies like wipro, cognizant and various tech startups visit the campus with various offers. The university sees a high percentage of students getting placed. The package are widely depending on various skill and codes. Furthermore while the highest package looks impressive on paper, the avg package remains modest for the majority of the batch. My personal plans after getting the degree focus on exploring independent entrepreneurial ventures rather than tradition corporate placement.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The interest in coding influenced me to choose this subject and course. The curriculum gets me ready for a 9-5 job which kind of gets hectic. The teachers could maybe schedule classes to give the students time to study what they want to and if they wish to do a course outside the university they have the time to do so rather than just going by the university curriculum
