Heritage Institute of Technology, B.Tech, Applied Electronics And Instrumentation

Reviewed on Sep 7, 2020

Remarks

Heritage Institute of Technology is the next obvious choice if the scores are not high enough for a public university. It has widely been recognised as the top private college in West Bengal. The campus is sprawling and abuzz with activities as heard from my seniors. The faculty list and qualifications were very good too as is displayed on their website. My reason for opting for Applied Electronics and Instrumentation was the fact i was passionate about electronics since a long time and wanted to pursue it further.

Course Curriculum Overview

The course structure of AEIE is very thorough and detailed. Starting from the very basics, the course delves deeper into the world of Electronics covering all the latest Industry trends like IoT,ML,Big Data,AI etc. The environment is academic and from initial days students are encouraged to go beyond textbooks. A variety of subjects are taught. Equal importance is given to practical as well as theoritical knowledge. Lab facilities are excellent. teachers are always punctual. Very few instances of classes being cancelled. The faculties overall are quite helpful. But two teachers deserve a special mention SJB sir and PPS sir for being excellent mentors and guides.

Class Size: 58Course Fees: INR 400000 per year

Placement Experience

Placements are moderately okay. Core companies do not recruit much. Tech giants like TCS,Infosys,Tech Mahindra,Capgemini,Wipro,Amazon are the main recruiters. The teachers readily give LoR to deserving students.

College Events

The campus life is vibrant. There are no instances of ragging on the campus and the seniors were welcoming and loving. There are various clubs like Rotaract,Nss,Drama, photography, fashion, art, music, dance, coding, entrepreneurship clubs which are very active throught the year and host variety of events. The annual cultural Fest is called Eclecia and is one of the biggest in kolkata. The annual tech fest is called Dakksh and sees participation from colleges around the city. Almost all the students participate in something or the other during the fest days. Apart from this various departmental events are held on a regular basis.

Campus Life

The campus is huge and has sprawling lawns and is lined with trees. It has two big playgrounds,a basketball court, carrom room, table tennis rooms, badminton courts. There are separate sports teams for each sport like football, basketball, tennis, cricket etc. sport enthusiasts can find lke minded people easily. The library is exceptionally good with a huge collection of textbooks and journals ranging from mechanics to elecronics and biotechnology. The librarians are exceptionally strict. Labs are clean and well maintained and well equipped. The lab assistants are very helpful to the students.

Fixed timetable Classes, regular assessment and class test
The professors are very qualified and their teaching style is excellent.
A lot of books are available in the main library as well as in the department library

Course Curriculum Overview:

The syllabus and curriculum of Calcutta University is aligned with other entrance examination (eg.IIT JAM, JEST, TIFR, GATE etc.) Specially for the Physics BSc course. And the syllabus is updated Artificial intelligence bacis, Python Advance level is in syllabus, it's completed in college. Point to be Noted - The time given to prepare for the exam is sometimes ample but sometimes it is very less. So we have to prepare syllabus in time which is little bit frustrating.

A fully equipted studio and lab for Journalism students

Dislikes

Things i disliked was the most has to be the locality the college is really nice but the locality is a bit shady

Course Curriculum Overview:

I always wanted to take up Journalism as a career and the thing which caught my attention in this college is that they have a fully equipted studio room and other colleges may have one but the students even publish there own news report here it prepars us very well for the real world

Likes

Supportive Faculty - The professors are highly qualified, approachable and always willing to help students
Free wifi support - There are free wifi support for both student and faculty
Fee Structure - It is very affordable and low compared to other colleges in the region

Dislikes

Placement support is below average, and most studnets have to apply for off campus jobs independently, which is really pathetic in the era of ai where getting a job as a fresher is so difficult
There is no dedicated support or placment cell initiative to help studnets land meaningful summer internships or any kind of internships

Placement Experience:

Students become eligible for campus placements starting from the 7th semester. For placement drives, we have to visit the main campus, Techno Main Salt Lake (TMSL). Since students from other Techno India campuses and branches also participate, the competition is extremely high. In the 2025–2026 academic year, fewer companies visited. Only two companies, Dronahost and WishCare, visited our specific campus directly. The remaining drives—mostly service-based companies like TCS and EY, along with a few startups—were conducted at the main campus. The remaining drives mostly service based companies like TCS, EY etc and quite a few startups has visited to main campus. The package they offered mostly in between 3.5lpa - 6 lpa. Furthermore the selection process of those startups is quite rigorous often consisting of upto 5 rounds of interview, two technical rounds with two technical interviews, and HR round My plans after getting the degree is either pursue an MBA or preparing for govt jobs

Campus life: Hype vs Truth

Likes

The discipline is followed very strictly. Also you have access to library which is good, teachers are helpful and no ragging policy which is strictly followed and has a decent environment.
Thery conduct seminars which encourages students. Many faculty members are knowledgeable experienced in their respective subjects and helpful willing to solve doubts beyond the classroom also.
The college has decent infrastucture including classrooms, labs and library .

Dislikes

While the curriculum is decent ,it lacks sufficeint practical implementation.More hands on projects, real world application and industry exposure would improve learning significantly.
Campus life can sometimes fell limited in terms of active student interaction.Opportunites for clubs, networking and collaborative activities could be improved.
The college comes under St tHomas School so the campus is not great it is compact and has a canteen.

Placement Experience:

I heard it from seniors that before lockdown it was pretty decent but after lockdown the company visits are not that much comapred to before lockdown.Cognizent, Accenture, Mindtree, PQ360 which is a startup company of our senior alumni etc. visits.

The campus is big and full of greenery with the vibrant feel of nature.
The students of the same batch are friendly and helpful.
The teacher's are friendly and helpful. They do provide helpful recommendations for the betterment of your future.

Dislikes

The seniors are overly harsh when it comes to 1st year.
The infrastructure could be worked on. The college lacks renovation.
The hostel does require everyday cleaning and renovation as well as the campus.

Placement Experience:

I don't know much about this but I guess from the sixth semester the students are eligible for campus placements. This year a student from AEIE got a package of 11.2 lacs per annum and the average is around 4 lacs per annum.

The Framework is said to be great, with well equipped classroom and simply get to the libraries.
The offices at this college are great. In any case, these changes depending on the quality of the companies going by the college and the victory of the internship changes by the internship.
Understudies appreciate the campus life and flexibility to associate with others understudies. However, there are few impediments such as the division of floors between senior and junior. College life is nice and could be an inviting place for others

Dislikes

The college doesn't have lodging, and understudies must organize their settlement locally.
The college doesn't have a big field to play like any other big college

Placement Experience:

In Syamaprasad College placements and internships are given to the final year students. And the companies that offer placements are Accenture, Deloitte, KPMG, etc. The highest package goes up to 20-24 lakhs and the average package goes to 6-8 lakhs. 70-80% of students get their placement in my college. At that time I planned to get the degree and apply to a multinational company with a high salary package with company facilities.

Heritage Institute Of Technology, Kolkata

I applied to plenty of state engineering colleges and only made it to UIT, BU which has awful facilities and a good ragging culture. So I opted out and went to a private college. Among private colleges, as far as I know, WB, IEM and Heritage are considered to be better. IEM's strict uniform code, zero campuses made me choose Heritage over IEM. The admission process is 1) Through West Bengal Joint counselling, which I went through, 2) Management Quota. Also, another reason why I picked Heritage over other private colleges is that it's fees is lower compared to other private colleges in west Bengal....Read More
