Entrance Preview

No entrance exam. Admission is based on 12th Grade marks. I opted for this particular course as it was general. I was unsure of whether to pursue or Aeronautics or Bio-engineering. Hence I chose to do a general course before specialising.

Course Curriculum Overview

3

The curriculum is comprehensive, but very rigid. It is possible to take only 5 elective modules. Students who plan to specialize in a different stream in Masters are left as a disadvantage. The currculum is well planned, and each module comprises 5 individual units, each independent of the others.

Internships Opportunities

No internship was provided to us. In the case that we wanted to, we needed to look out on our own. However, in Chennai it is not very hard to find an internship by looking around and requesting people.

Placement Experience

3.5

In my batch of 180, approximately 75% of the students were placed. About 10% chose to go for higher studies. Caterpillar (11 lpa), Ford (6lpa), Coromandel Cements, Hyundai, Maruti, Thermax, Whirlpool, Bosch, Volvo, IBM were some of the companies that recruited Mechanical Engineering students.

College Events

4

Kurukshetra, a techno management festival is held every January and Techofest, a cultural festival is held every February. Both boast of a participation of over ten thousand students from India and all over the world. Ample opportunities for honing ones skill are present.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee is Rs.8,000 per semester for local students, who are subsidised. It is Rs.15,000 for self financed students. For NRI's and Foreign nationals it can go upto USD 9000 per annum. It depends on course. Certain courses that require more facilities are slightly more expensive.

Fees and Financial Aid

Educational loans are offered by SBI, Indian Bank etc. Scholarships are available to meritorious students, but very difficult to avail.

Alumni/Alumna

The alumni are friendly and helpful. While I have not been a part of any network, I must definitely say my seniors have taught me more than my batch mates and teachers.

Exam Structure

Approximately 35 hours of lessons were held every week. There were 2 or 3 lab sessions each week and each session was about 3 hours. Internal assessments comprising 3 tests (Best 2 were considered) constituted 50% of the marks. An end term exam constitutes the remaining half.

Admission

Application forms are given out every May. You fill it and then are called for counselling depending on your marks. Caste based reservation is available. Marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry in 12th Standard exams are taken into account. If you are a Foreign National or An NRI the process is different.

Faculty

3.5

The faculty of the college are a mix of fresh faculty and experienced ones. While some faculty are well informed and prepared, there are faculty who come under prepared or even completely unprepared for lessons. A lot of emphasis is placed on self learning.
